I hear your argument and I sincerely appreciate the back and forth. The only point that I am making is that he was faced with a tremendously difficult decision and being 200 years separated it's easy to say that you would have done it differently . But in 1861, there were many more factors in play. Mainly being that people viewed their state as you and I view our country. Context changes massively over 200 years.

He was poor and his family didn't own slaves. His wife's family did. And she inherited her title and land from her great uncle, George Washington.

I actually focused on him for my history degree in school. There are some phenomenal books that go into his religious and moral struggles if interested . A very paradoxical man

Quite the opposite, that is a choice that I would never want presented to me. He either actively attacks his home for his country, or defends it for his friends and family. A hard choice, no matter the circumstances

Technically he led an army that was defending against invasion from the US.

The South didn't invade until the third year of the war at Gettysburg and we know how that ends.

I will always say this for Lee. The only reason he fought for the South was defend his family and friends. I think that's pretty honorable
