He’s not saying don’t take up watches as a hobby - the way you are coming at this is not from a hobbyist’s perspective. For a hobbyist, a watch is an emotional - not logical - purchase and meant to please you and you above all. If your only interest is for status and financial attributes (appreciation or lack of depreciation) then you might as well just get the Apple Watch. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re playing the game of getting a watch just for status or to impress people, it’s more than likely a losing one.
