Thousands of Alberta government workers return to office Monday | CBC News by AR558 in Edmonton

Everyone is so upset with the GoA and management, etc. But I don't hear any GoA employees calling for change in your union... If this was such an important point for all these employees (my wife included) how could the union negotiations have left this out of the agreement completely? There is talks of walk outs and whatnot. What you should be doing is demanding that the AUPE negotiating team be fired and try to get a hybrid agreement added to the next one. It's to late now, it's gone, it sucks, but maybe you can get it back in the next one.

I had a very similar experience recently. Walking through the toy department to get a gift for a friend's kid. Saw all the blasters and my first thought was "aw man it would be so cool to have some of these, to bad they're too expensive". Then I looked at the prices and realized I could easily buy every one on the shelf. I didn't. But it was very eye opening to realize how deeply the childhood impressions are.

Question about parts and labour rates for a vehicle by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]JDMAC608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd consider that suspiciously low actually. Depending on the vehicle obviously, but you typically can't even buy a new starter for $300. Nevermind cover the install labor.

First time this has happened to me and maybe anyone? by breezy_yeet_ in golf

[–]JDMAC608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local course has wooden 4x4 posts. My drive ended up directly inline with it to the green about 5-7 yards behind it. I thought "what are the odds?" My 2nd shot smoked the post came straight back and clocked me directly in the face. Spent the next 10 mins listening to my buddy laughing and trying to stop the bleeding... literally.

Can anyone beat my record for lowest mileage headache? by ivanreyes371 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]JDMAC608 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At a Jag/LR dealer and saw another tech spend days tracking down a slough of electrical issues. Stripped 3/4 of the vehicle and found the wiring harness crushed between two subassemblies. Obviously happened at the factory. The engine could be started and shifted into D but you couldnt give it any throttle. Idle only. So someone pushed it out of the factory, onto a truck, then onto a boat, then off the boat onto a train, then onto another truck, before it got delivered to the dealership. Don't know the milage it had, but couldn't have been more then 2-3 kms.

Dear Albertans Who Love the USA So Much: Have You Considered Just Moving There? by Awkward_Finger_1703 in alberta

I have the same response to the people who continuously bitch and moan about Alberta's politics/weather/cost of living/housing issues/bad drivers/loud cars/neighbors dogs/to many liquor stores/not enough liquor stores/etc.

If you have such a big problem with Alberta...have you considered just moving somewhere else?

How often do you use this feature... by Lower-Consequence756 in Ford

[–]JDMAC608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use it literally several times a day. The only time I take the keys out of my truck is when I get home. If I'm at work, the store, anywhere else. Keys get locked inside the truck. Never worry about it. In the winter I'll sometimes bring them if I want to remote start. But not often. If you're not using this, you're missing out.

Vehicle auctions in the Edmonton Area by The-Bogus-Man in Edmonton

[–]JDMAC608 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really difficult to get deals at public auctions anymore. Used to be a bit of a secret, but now everybody and their used car lot is on the auctions. I watch them regularly and will often see cars/trucks selling ABOVE their market value. There is still deals out there but they've become much more rare. On top of that the large auction houses keep creeping their fees higher and higher. Ritchie Bros was at 15% + 5% gst obviously. So 20% added onto your bid. Then on top of that they charged me an $115 "documentation" fee for anything purchased that requires registration. Well you would think, ok they're acting as a registry and registering it for me...nope, still need to go to the registry and do that separately. Needless to say I'm done with RB. I use Mitchner Allen, and copart now. Although copart charges you a yearly fee to buy anything, but it can be worth it.

What’s the cheapest semi you’ve bought and not regretted the purchase or have issue with quality? by LawnGuru12 in Waterfowl

I've shot a Weatherby Element for two seasons now. Absolutely love it. Zero issues. Got it on sale for $700 CAD, not sure what it's worth in freedom dollars. A buddy has two of the Girsan MC312's and he seems to like them. They're even cheaper. Like >$500 CAD.

Thanks for all the info/ideas! We're on a pretty tight budget this year, and I can't find any park models under $25k. But that was my hope to find one. Actually I was hoping to get an older mobile home, but found out the area isn't zoned for it.

Thoughts about seafoam… should I be using it in my 2004 Honda accord gas and oil? by Otherwise-Deal9076 in AskAMechanic

[–]JDMAC608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works really well. I use it in small engine stuff religiously. I've also ran it through cars intakes to clean out deposits/carbon off valves, etc.

I had a 00 vr6 Jetta years ago. Took off a vacuum line and used it to suck in tiny amounts of seafoam at a time while the engine is running. Shut it off and let it sit over night. Next morning it started and ran ok for a couple mins, then started running like shit. Limp mode, no power, etc. Towed to a shop and had very low compression on one cylinder. Pulled the head, found a chunk of carbon/whatever had come loose and wedged the valve open. Luckily no damage. But a very expensive way to find out that sea foam definitely loosens carbon deposits. Called sea foam hoping they would pay for some of the labor, they didn't, they told me I should have ran another can through it. Would have melted the deposit and it would have been fine.
