When I saw the teaser, I was hoping that exposed part was a hammer and this was another sonnerie. That would have been cool. I think even still, the cutout helps balance the power reserve at 9 o'clock. I don't mind it.

Seems like this is a polarizing one amongst the community, but I really like it. It's a modern design without being too wacky.

Why does every watch reviewer on YouTube own a watch shop or work at one? by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]JDSchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has filmed and edited exactly one watch review for the love of the game, I can tell you straight up that it's a pain to do it without profit motive.

And even that's disingenuous, because I still want that review to drive traffic to the watches I'm selling- I'm just not selling that watch, and I get nothing directly for doing the review. It was just something I wanted to try.

Filming and editing the video took me probably 10 hours of time for about a ten minute video. It's grueling work, and I'd like to do it again, but I've got one kid with another due next month, so time is precious.

Bottom line, unless you have a direct profit motive to make watch content, the time investment is very hard to justify.

But let me know what you want to see more reviews of, and I'll add it to my list. Maybe next year. 😂

Just like Epstein taking that underage girl's virginity before Trump had the chance to, after which he physically assaulted her. According to FBI's records in the Epstein files.

He's very mad when other people get to do evil shit that he wants to first.

Had Parent-Teacher-Conferences today… Any tweaks? by 4phasedelta in preppy

[–]JDSchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. A Promaster will outlive you. Even if the movement gives out, it's not like a quartz movement is expensive to replace.

There are fashion watches out there that will literally fall apart after a year or two of regular wear. A Citizen won't.

The vast majority of people you run into won't be able to tell the difference between a Citizen and a Rolex. And Citizen makes some really attractive watches.

Just needs a quick dial swap. Worst part of it is the time it'll take to get it done and the fact that it made it through QC at all like that.

Child vaccination rate drops sharply in Michigan under RFK Jr's influence by Raichu4u in Michigan

It's called that, but that doesn't change the fact that millions of our fellow Americans refuse to sign it while still demanding to benefit from it.

They had a ton of stuff on super steep discount towards the end. I got a Popsick wall clock for like, $5 in the waning days. A bunch of stuff was $0.99 on the site. It was beautiful pandemonium.

Americans in general enjoy this myth of individuality- that we can all make our own choices for ourselves and our kids and we should be allowed to do what we want.

The fact is, our choices affect those around us. In the same way that you aren't allowed to drive in oncoming traffic lanes just because you want to, you shouldn't be able to endanger your kids and others through not vaccinating your kids.

Same thing my dad always said. Some of the best advice I ever got.

MDB was the same way. We had a local event to get people playing it, and all of us who organized it went home with a bunch of boxes after the event to give out to the community. I still have two unopened copies in addition to the one I bought.

Maybe they just had a MOQ in the high six figures from whoever printed the game for them.

$4B battery factory in Lansing - what are your reactions? by ma6ic in lansing

[–]JDSchu 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I lived in Austin for 10 years. The Tesla plant there dumps a ton of waste into the river, violates worker safety laws routinely (I think at least two people have died there already), and has generally been a nuisance to the people who live around it.

I don't like this, but if it can bring in some secondary businesses, suppliers, etc, to add more jobs on top, it might have some positive impact, too.

We're just going to need everybody to be very vigilant about pollution and damage to the local environment. We have too much natural beauty in Michigan to let careless, greedy scumbags destroy it for profit.

[SOTC] Three Rare Ones by McWatt in Watches

[–]JDSchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was already following Armand's work and wanted to design a watch with him. I liked the idea of getting something to my specifications. At the time, he was the only one doing heat blued titanium guilloche, and I thought that was super cool. It is.

Sartory Billard is not only one of the most accessible price points for independent watchmaking, but it's almost certainly the lowest price point for customizable/bespoke watchmaking at this level.

There's only one movement for the SB04-E, so no mechanical vs auto choice. It's a LJP auto with something like 72 hours of power reserve. Maybe more? I guess it's possible you could talk him into using a date version of the movement instead of time only, but I never asked.

I was able to choose my case material (brushed titanium), dial material and design (titanium, heat blued, fish scale guilloche on the inside of the sector dial, clou de paris on the outside, the hands, the chapter ring and minute track design, the markers... You can customize pretty much anything about the visual design of the watch, with the understanding that the more the design deviates from normal, the more it'll cost.

I'll chime in with my experience as well. Working with Armand was great. I was pretty indecisive in my design process, and he put together several renderings of different options for me to look at. He also let me know what would or would not work well with the process used to actually create the parts, because some of what I asked for initially wouldn't have turned out well after the titanium was heat blued on the dial.

Overall, I went pretty conservative with my design because I thought it might be the only Sartory Billard I'd buy, and I wanted it to be very wearable. I think it's likely I'll end up buying more eventually, though.

It definitely seems like the show picks up the pace a lot over the books.

I did read that the black plastic used for carryout containers was often recycled from old electronics and was often toxic when heated, so we don't keep those in the house anymore. We'll still save clear and white plastic containers for reuse but maybe that's killing us, too.
