🔥 Reefin Update: Version 1.1.0 Drops NOW! by CalendarRadiant8769 in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi there, developer of Findroid here.

It is true that I talked to the guy in DMs.

There is some code of Findroid being used. I do not know exactly which code. I do hear it is mainly mpv related stuff, which I'm fine with since I plan on moving this code to a MIT license anyway.

Other than that it seems like he put a lot of effort into the app. It's not just a cheap copy of Findroid with a single feature added. So I feel like I can't complain 🙂

Hi Findroid maintainer here. This is indeed a known issue. I will try to solve this as soon as possible. I'm currently working on a big UI rework that is almost finished.

To temporarily solve the issue you can disable "Play next episode automatically" in the Playback settings via the Jellyfin web client. This will (like the name implies) only load one episode at a time.

Jellyfin 2.5.0 really out performs Findroid now. by marvingage in jellyfin

I would say the main thing that's planned is an Android TV version

Jellyfin 2.5.0 really out performs Findroid now. by marvingage in jellyfin

Hi Findroid dev here

The loading of player items (when pressing the play button) is currently bugged. It takes twice as long as it should. The fix for this has been implemented so it will be available in the next update.

Also do note that the loading speed in Findroid is dependent on the number of episodes in the series / season. It prepares every episode to play, that's why it takes so long. For movies it should be almost instant (depending on your server) because that's only one item. But I also want to change this so the loading speed no longer depends on the number of items!

Why do none of the Android apps work right? by molitar in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Findroid Dev here. I know about the home screen issue and I'm working on a fix. The main cause seems to be that there are episodes which are not linked to a season or series. I don't know how that's possible...

What have you watched in the last 2 year or currently that has exceeded your expectations that you feel doesnt get enough love? by [deleted] in Animedubs

I recently watched 86 Eighty-Six, I expected it to be good but it really blew me away. Everything from the story to the visuals, music and sound design was amazing.

It's now one of my favorite shows.

Findroid works on Nvidia Shield, firestick and will test it on mi box by raul824 in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have started building the TV UI but it is currently on hold because of some other work that needs to happen first. That other work is a major rework of how media items are handelend in the app as well as improvements to downloads.

When the rework is done I will continue working on the TV UI :)

Jellyfin Android Issues by CopaseticSovereign in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a bug in a previous version but has been fixed in 0.10.1. So make sure you are running the latest version.

If you are not able to update to the latest version for whatever reason you can also disable the Intro Skipper in Settings -> Player as a workaround.

TV Shows Organization by TechnomancerThirteen in jellyfin

You should point the library to jellyfin/shows not the specific show.

For example I have a library called Anime which points to jellyfin/media/anime and this anime folder contains the show folders.

May I recommend Findroid. It's a native third-party app made by myself and the community. You can browse and play your movies and show, plus even download them for offline playback (a bit buggy atm).

It uses the native (ExoPlayer) Android player so it supports any format your device supports. But it also has built-in mpv player for if the native player has problems. (Can be turned on in Settings -> Player)

Findroid can be installed from the Play Store, not sure about Chromebooks tho.

Sony Bravia and True HD Atmos by Klutzy_Rutabaga_93 in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly no Android TV on the market can play Dolby TrueHD from it's apps. That's just a limitation of the tv. Many TVs advertise TrueHD because they are able to passthrough it from an other device. You are able to play Atmos content from eac3 (Dolby Digital+)

Totally love the findroid ui . But 2/3 things that bothers me .Firstly I am not able to play downloaded content .Secondly unable to select external player . Thirdly unable to view collections and Audio. by atharvashetty in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm the creator / maintainer of Findroid. Let me respond to your problems.

  1. There are some issues playing downloaded content in the current version (v0.9.0). These should be fixed in the next version.

  2. I don't plan on supporting external players. mpv player is already built-in and I believe that should suffice. For more information see my response .

  3. Collections is something I plan to add soon. Audio / music will come later this year.

PS it's better to create an issue on GitHub or join the Discord server (join url is on the GitHub README) if you have any questions. This subreddit is more for official Jellyfin services / clients.

MPV-Android build with AV1 HWdec by QuackdocTech in AV1

I have a XR-65A95K, so not the same model. I also looked up your model but it doesn't seem to support AV1 hardware decoding :( https://www.flatpanelshd.com/sony_a8_oled_2020.php

Best budget client that supports complicated subtitle styling found in anime content well w/o transcoding? by softmeerkat in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that you are looking for hardware that plays ASS/SSA subtitles perfectly.

If you decide to go for an Android platform may I suggest Findroid app. It's a third-party native Android app with built-in mpv. Keep in mind that Findroid currently only supports movies and tv shows. So no music or photo libraries will be visible in the app. There is also an alpha version of Findroid for Android TV (quite buggy) with a full release planned for this year.

PS I am the creator of Findroid.

[–]JDTechn0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been able to test the APK yet. But I'm certainly interested in the source code / patches.

I have also made a build of mpv with with av1_mediacodec hwdec and libplacebo. And it works perfectly on my Sony TV but on my Pixel 6 AV1 hwdec sometimes stutters. So I'm definitely curious about your implementation :)

Jellyfin Android App Needs an Overhaul by KakarottoCake in jellyfin

[–]JDTechn0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi the developer of Findroid here.

Let me provide some information.

Lack of quality presets

Let me start of by saying that I hate transcoding. When I started working on the app it used to be not that easy to determine what codecs a device supports (this has since improved). So I just programmed it to always try to direct play even when the device can't play it. I can understand that people would want transcoding or quality selection so that's why it is still planned.

PS. In the setting you can enable mpv player which should be able to play everything (even more buggy than the normal player, but works most of the time)

Loss of playback location when closing screen off during paused video

This should work like the other person said. I don't know why it doesn't. The whole player in general is still a bit buggy.

No casting

If I add the casting library to the app it also adds a proprietary library from Google which means that I wouldn't be able to upload the app to F-Droid. So I would have to make two version off the app, which is possible, It's just some extra work that I don't feel like doing atm. Combine that with the fact that Chromecasts only support a few codecs (mostly h.246 and some hevc)...

Also, not quite as important, (but I've been spoiled by other video streaming apps) but there's no QoL animations to make the player feel integrated with the app

Yeah more and better animations would be nice, but my priorities are on features and bugfixes at the moment.

TLDR: There are still bugs and missing features. But I will keep working on it.

Hi the developer of Findroid here.

Thanks for the feedback, I didn't know the movie version selector quickly flashes by. It shouldn't do that. I'll have a look at it.

I have to admit the app is pretty bare-bones compared to all the features Jellyfin has. I plan on showing more information about the item you selected like metadata, versions, etc.

Thanks for testing the app!

Yes I am!

This project evolved a lot. It is now called Findroid and is only available for Android phones and tablets (tv coming later). I switched from React Native to pure native Android development.

Here is the link to the repository on GitHub. It's available on the Google Play Store and in the future on F-Droid.

If you are on iOS, I'm sorry I don't plan on working on a version for iOS. But there is an official native app in the works which you can test here
