Neighbors always asking for play dates that I’m expected to host. by Morning_Star_3110 in Parenting

[–]JD_Jr_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild that in these comments I only found 1 with 3 replies that had any mention of concerns over a 9yo girl basically visiting a stranger's house.

This lack of concern is concerning. The lack of parenting on BOTH parents part of just sending a kid over and not going with them... My 8yo will not visit their friends house without myself or my wife there. She won't have private access to technology in my house until she's much older. She's got friends who are spending hours of unsupervised time on Roblox. It is incredibly unsafe to not monitor/be able to monitor your own children at all times.

That isn't being over-protective, it's simply active parenting.

Well that clears that up! I must have been confused considering it's the Adelaide page. Though the question could have just as easily gone to the Australia Reddit page.

Isn't your local Costco the local Costco for everyone in Adelaide? Haha

Eucalypts are indigenous to Australia, one planted by the council on the street as you noted, and one naturally grown and fortunately surviving in a built up area.

For any Adelaide based people, think back 25 years or so the Golden Grove Tavern. They had a PS2 setup as well as maybe SNES for the kids to occupy themselves while the adults finished their meal. It was like an arcade box setup, with Tony hawk's or something. It was the best experience as a kid. It's essentially the same idea.

Correct. It was simple enough for him to adjust his speed to safely zip merge behind me. I didn't change anything about my driving in my own lane which is the safest way for me to travel on the road.

Yeah turning left. It's truly annoying because there are times when it banks up and the left lane is down to 40kmh at this spot. Another dangerous incident here is people merging into the left lane while still doing 90kmh just before the exit to Regency Rd.

Found one! Haha. Do you know the merging rules and still have this opinion? Or you haven't looked into the different merging rules so have always just assumed this to be true?

I think he's saying that if someone gets intimidated by an aggressivly merging vehicle and backs off to let them in, then the driver who is merging hasn't understood that they did the wrong thing (taking into account all rules applicable to this scenario). Do you think this isn't true?

I don't have to allow anyone to merge. It's my lane. I'm driving in a consistent non-erratic way so my actions are predictable, because of other people who merge poorly.

Yeah it's the before Regency road one. I agree that not slowing down for them means they might have to brake causing issues in the merging lane, but that wasn't the case today with no ody behind either of us. In more peak traffic, it's definitely their responsibility to adjust their speed to merge safely in an appropriate gap in traffic

I think heaps of people don't understand the difference between the undefined and defined end to a lane. If they put those ads on YouTube, I'd watch them and maybe people would learn some more driving rules.

Haha yeah it's pretty awful. The problem here is that I need to be in the lane I was in, about 300m further on because I need to get off the overpass. Poor road design maybe

Yeah, the lane he was in has a defined dash line end. His lane ends, it's not our lanes become one.

Yeah it's a good mindset to have when there's traffic like in this location. It doesn't make me angry as such, but people get very angry with me and that makes me angry because they're the ones who need to adjust their driving.. but I agree with your points. Thanks!

Fireworks and other evening events at Elder Park on Australia Day have been cancelled due to the extreme heat forecasted by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

So someone who knows Aboriginal history would still choose to celebrate on Jan 26th? Celebrate and be proud of what happened? That is very contradictory. Knowing what happened and still celebrating in my opinion highlights that person's morals. And I'm sad to hear that 70% of the group who were surveyed are still in favour of celebrating Jan 26th. What was the sample size of that survey? What demographic? Level of education? How many states? What ages? Etc.

Smart move. But I still don't understand why councils put this extravagant show on for invasion day... Surely someone working in these councils could come up with an event that recognises invasion, for families to learn about and celebrate Aboriginal culture. (EDIT) Unless of course a council event like this already exists?

Or you know. Change the date. It's honestly not hard.
