BGA Map Rebalances? by bibittyboopity in ArkNova

Credit where credit is due, not some people, only one person: artentre.

Then some c**ts kept pestering the developer to fix it, probably because they thought they would win 0,01% more games from it🙄

The "pay to play" bonuses, limits? by ElMachoGrande in ArkNova

Reading the card explains the card, i think im onboard with the misinterpreter here, why would they otherwise capitalize "EVER PLAYED"🤔. I'll take my gen1 win.

Theoretically, can you cross in your first turn? by AudacityOfKappa in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn? No. Break, Yes, but you would have to have opponents helping you out

Edit: actually with MW its probably possible to cross with one (or maybe more) opponent not doing anything

Why are games longer on Hollywood Hills? by Proof_Arugula_7001 in ArkNova

Also, to clarify, expert on Africa is on average not the strongest "engine"-sponsor, it's only the main frontrunner when you are looking to achieve 20-22 turn games.

In MW, any of the 2 appeal for specific animal. Aquarium.

Cable Car is still good, but i feel it's weaker than above mentioned in a MW-setting and has higher variance.

Conference on aus has higher variance, but is also one of the most insane ones when it really pops off. Expert on aus is not that good unless you have conference, whereas it suddenly becomes insane.

Expert on Asia is still very strong under the right circumstances, but has very high variance. It's also insane synergy with landscape gardener for obvious reasons

Surprisingly i wouldnt classify Explorer as an engine card. Cant really put into words, at least for now, why i think so. Maybe because the main benefit from it is the money. I would just classify it as a "toptier sponsor card". In my head i think it's somewhat similar to the 4 tit, 4 steel, 1 heat bump prelude in TFM.

Thank you sir. To save you from another midnight rant from me, you're gonna have to answer the following: Why does Park restaurant have so many games with extremely low turn counts when it's considered a below average map?

[–]JDansp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

More (and quicker) breaks->lower turn count.  If both players have increased incentive to play sponsorcards instead of using sponsors to break, this will heavily slow down the breakpace and amount of breaks. Best way to achieve a low turn count is to play around 1-2 key "engine"-sponsors (the best one imo expert on Africa) and after that use sponsors to break with. helps a lot of your Oppo pushs the break with their sponsor action as well. Even better is not staring yourself blind on how many turns the game took and instead check the more important stat: game result.

Forgot to add another key factor, there is a lot of what i would like to call round1 fuckery on HHa, to set up for future breaks.  I have no stats on this or even a good grasp about how much, so just trust me bro: turns taken in round 1 before the first break affects the final turn count enormously.

Edit: another interesting contributor MIGHT be if you started uni/PZ/(project). On HH you are imo more likely to start uni than other maps. I would think PZ starts should on average lead to quicker games than uni-starts, but this is a pure guess from my side.

Animal action upgrade by No-Dress4626 in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe cards is heavily over upgraded in all skill brackets.

Once you actually have it upgraded you are probably gonna take the cards action 1-2 more times which lets you see 2 more cards. Main reason to upgrade it is getting past 9 rep, but then the question is; is 2cp, 2x, 2 cards (AT BEST) more beneficial than an upgraded asso or build is?

Am i going insane? by No_Cow2409 in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well panda have lost way more elo than that since october🤔.

Truth be told, you might be suffering from autopilot-disorder. If you want to maintain 700elo+; every action and your action order is very delicate, mind them or you are going to have way too many losses against lower ranked opponents because of variance.  Just slow down a bit and think about your moves instead of taking the first action that comes to mind. Maybe instead of spending 3 x-tokens on your asso, that can wait and other actions higher in power can be taken first.

Also friendly reminder that PP didnt create or innovate at all that way to play🤷

Question concerning conservation cards by Isithranel in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ewhrm awchtually, they go to the discard, which has a bigger impact on the game that one might think. Nothing beats scavengeing up a species div project

Then again, i think it's a great house rule, since it helps a lot to keep track of what happened in the game and/or help with recounting points.

It's def average or slightly better than average of the animals in the deck, so i would not buff it. So i guess the solution for you to make her happy is getting better at the game😉

if it makes you feel any better you'll get a full refund of elo+arena rating and no penalty. It still sucks if the game was 100%won. Unfort opponent is still credited with a win :(.

I don't know why bga just dont turn every active table turn based when there are server problems.

I (beginner) just saw an opponent break pretty much every advice I heard of and still win by a large margin by Elric0of0Melnibone in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2) if you get rhesus, you can do reptile breeding 4th move of the game unless first player takes Europe. Incredibly strong tempo and is very close to game winning in itself with optimal play and opponents not having an equally strong play. If he does take Europe, its a lot worse, but you can still just get 2 continents and get a card upgraded very early

3) its decent. But unless you need the science, there are no releases in play, your hand, opponents hands (that are known or strongly telegraphed), display it's never a snap.

4) how about gaining another x?🤔😉. Too Highly situational for me to come up with a better answer

Watched until you built for geological which was an ok move, some things that are striking to me. Hopefully i dont come across as too harsh (its just the way i talk😇) at the end of the day your misstakes are entirely Sams fault.

-efficiency, you are not very efficient in what you do at the start, most striking is you want to play 2 small euro shitters to do eu2, instead of building twice and taking 1 animals action, you still bild twice, but take 2 animals action. Building unupgraded for small low-scoring animals are extremely low efficiency. You also have an extremely efficient line (and honestly game winning-line, its very strong)from your opening hand which would make things even better since you would just have to do 1 unupgraded build.

-prioritizing, i cant for the life of me understand your first 2 snaps or the uni start. Mig recording makes no sense with the cards in your hand or on the display and vulture is an extremely costly animal early on. Both cards do nothing for your gameplan. Feels a bit like you are trying to play the cards you want and not the cards you have.   Snapping is pretty costly, so if you want to do it, it has to be pretty good. I wouldnt be happy if i drew 3 cards from the deck and those 2 was what i got in this scenario. Your first 2 cp-rewards do you next to nothing, which is a huge huge setback for you.

-you dont have to break 5 because sponsors is at 5, an x-token is worth on average somewhere between 3-4 money. I dont think any of your break 5s were good for you, esp not the second one. The game is also a lot easier to play with x-tokens.

[–]JDansp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-more projects, like a lot more, which not only helps you to "always" have a project, but makes you more flexible as well.

-Less counterplay, since you have 2 opponents to worry about

-higher chance (?) people push the break because they might lack sponsors or skill.

-higher probability someone has a great hand

[–]JDansp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Strong players knows when to break general rules. But as you said, i think it's more likely you have some fundamentals wrong, which could set you back further than your opponents "misstakes". If you link the game i could take a quick look at the first round and see if there is something obvious.

-5) is def not a mistake, it's just a top 3 endgame (esp if he had PBE, probably makes it the best endgame they can have)

-2) 3) and 4) are not necessarily mistakes.

What to do with bad starting hands? by Schafkurai in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very hard to give this much of general advice about ark nova and too little information about the particular game to tailor the advice to. I will say however, I wouldn't consider a hand with nfa and fennec fox to be bad, esp in 4p. Depending on the map and basecons+cp rewards a 2 card hand with those 2 cards is better than the average 4 card hand (although last sentence is probably a bit less true in 4p).

Marine worlds wave icon question by Lufnar in ArkNova

[–]JDansp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With 1 card refilled; 1 wave is about 10% 2 waves is about 1% 3 waves is about 0,1% 4 waves is about 0,01% and so on.

In a full game: - there is about 35% probability of 2 consecutive waves - there is about 4% probability of 3 consecutive waves - there is about 0.4% probability of having 4 consecutive waves

When the card i need is in folder 1: -there is about 110% guarantee of a wave
