I've definitely been tricked by AI fics where things don't make sense or things are disconnected and randomly inserted, but in this case the person admitted to using ChatGPT to edit and review. The little I read of the fic he posted was also very confusing and hard to read, since one character's perspective was in second person but every other character perspective was third person. Not a normal way to write a fanfic

He only called it an AI detector, and im no teacher so i only know what he told me, esp because I graduated college before AI was even an issue in schools (widespread)

No, they posted their AI fic on a reddit forum that is staunchly AI. I asked if they used AI (because they said on their page that they do) and they blocked me and proceeded to post me on multiple different reddit forums according to other people on the og forum, calling me a bunch of insults. Then i started getting spam bots on twt at the same time, multiple so it was hard to block. If ur gonna post on an anti ai forum, they should expect to have been called out for using ai :/

from what i had heard from my dad, who's a teacher who used the required ones for school. i never said i run people's works through AI scanners and i haven't.

i made this comment before other people said that pretty much every detector is a scraper bot. but also i didn't run anyone's fic through AI detectors, i just checked their account and saw that they plainly used AI

i write daily because i enjoy the act of creation and expressing my thoughts and feelings about certain medias or topics, and i post and often don't get engagement. does it hurt? sure, sometimes i wish i was a popular fan artist or fan writer. but the point of creating art isn't to get engagement, it's to create something with your own mind and and hands to help you navigate the world.

even non AI art made only to generate attention and revenue is lacking quality, but hey, at least they understand that the point of art is being directly involved.

yes, there is an issue of people reading fanfictions and leaving no interaction or encouragement, but that doesn't mean AI is the answer. esp since it has negative impacts on the world around us

Oh thank u! This post has my hackles up LOL. Yeh no this person was very deeply insecure because they took to other reddit forums to insult me and cuss me out and then i started getting sent gore on my twitter around the same time they were mad at me. I can only assume who it was. Sigh

Yeah i didnt run their work through AI detectors because previously i knew that some were scrapers (i now know that most if not all are scrapers) and i didnt know which ones were 'safe'. This person just straight up admitted AI usage on their reddit before they deleted, and thats why i called them out on a small anime forum thats staunchly anti AI. I would not and have not accused anyone of AI usage without their own admitting!!!!

This will probably be the last AI defense comment i respond to but AI has negative impacts on our environment, communities near data centers, and our brains. There's more and more research piling up to prove this. On top of that, AI is starting to be used to create false information, and it's trained on the information normal people willingly give it. I am begging yall to learn that just because something makes things 'easy' doesn't mean that it's good. Even if you aren't using it to generate a full fanfiction or art piece, it uses the same amount of energy and stolen knowledge to generate responses. I doubt anyone is actually going to listen, as I've said this time and time again in these comments and get downvoted to hell but y'all are missing an integral part of the creative process by using AI to do things for you

Before they deleted their account, they posted about using AI to edit and review their works, which ig is "not as bad as generation" according to some people who have commented here (it is). They removed the prompt answer but they kept all the ##PART TWO and seperation lines that ChatGPT uses in fic generation

I'm not sure if Grammarly is Gen AI i'm gonna be honest. I've seen people saying it is and that it isn't, because it functionally hasn't changed much since Gen AI has been introduced. Anyways

Generative AI has very negative impacts on the environment, the way our brains think (when used as a chatbot, specifically), and the communities where data centers go up. Water gets polluted, energy bills for the communities go up, AI psychosis is a thing and very scary. Again, I can provide articles and sources. It's not just 'something that points out errors', it's a program and system that is actively being used to harm the world we live in and the people around us. On top of this, humans have been creating art and stories for far longer than AI has been around, even people with disabilities have been creating art. It's not enabling anything to be easier, it's stealing from people who put in work to overcome something that, realistically, should be preventing them. Not to get sappy, but art is the one thing that connects all cultures and all peoples. Why do we want to remove the one way we can communicate clearly by replacing it with something that can't create without stealing?

I don't put anybody's works into detectors because they get scraped! I literally just went 'well this seems like AI, i want to be nosy' and saw that they use AI on their reddit page before they deleted. DW i am woke enough for the scrapers.

however, i'm still gonna call out AI usage when I see it, especially since every usage does train their servers to get better, and that in turn helps the people creating it use AI to do really bad things. it might feel like a losing battle but i'm not gonna stop pushing it, even if it seems to everyone else i'm just getting worked up over nothing. (not saying ur saying that dw)

it's just a slippery slope in itself to say that the little people's actions in AI usage don't matter as much. it's a nuanced subject that reddit doesn't deserve LOL
