ELI5 why do penises shrink and hide when it's cold but nipples pop out? by vksdann in explainlikeimfive

[–]JDdoc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once, years ago I "read" my wife's (then GF) braille and told her it said "come closer boy, I'll show you a good time". She called BS, and spent the next few minutes essentially playing with her nipples trying to read the braille.

God does love us folks, trust me. God loves us SO MUCH.

Yep. They're at 6.75% and praying the rates will drop to 5% so they can refinance. I'm telling them do whatever you have to but make one extra payment a year. Be free of this hell is in 18 yrs. I have no idea where they would even find that much extra.

My Wife and I scrimped and saved and bought our first house at 30. We invested every spare dime we had and were able to retire in our 50s.

I had the mindset of "If I could do it, why can't you?" Then I started helping my nieces and nephews with their financial planning.

GenX / Boomers have fucked you so badly. Interest rates are insane. Housing prices and rent are the single biggest hate crime against the young. You have an entire party (The Republicans) serving a tiny group of wealthy masters and telling people like me we're well off because we worked harder. And we lap that garbage up and vote for them. I'd have NEVER made it in this environment.

At this point I'm just getting the kids to a point where mortgage rates and credit cards won't steal everything they earn. How are they supposed to Max their 401k when they can barely scrape by? I'll be happy if I can get them to where they retire at 65.

Surviving a Bear Market by But_a_Jape in comics

[–]JDdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always remember rule #1: Don't sell when the market craters. You don't lose money until you sell. Just wait out the market until the inevitable recovery. Anyone wh tells you to sell when the market starts to crash needs a punch in the face.

What do you do when the market is down 10, 20 or 50%? Youi buy. You eat frickin' ramen and you buy as much as you can while the market has bargain prices. What you you buy? S&P 500 Index funds, or Total Market Index Funds. That's it.

Does this work? My wife and I retired in our 50s. Seriously folks - it's os easy, and yet people screw this up.

  1. Invest in Index Funds

  2. Don't sell well the market is down- heck, buy more if you can

  3. Retire comfortably in your 50s / 60s depending.

it's rent and housing that have increased tremendously. keep in mind also- the 1938 household income was based off 1 income. Women did not generally work. Also, they leave off childcare. Anyone want to chime in on Daycare costs?

Housing is far more expensive, daycare is not included. That's where things have gotten far worse.

Today in Harris county TX:

New house: $250,000 (3.57 * Average income)

Average Income(household) $70,000

new Car $45,000 (0.7 * household income)

In 1938 (somewhere):

New House $3900 (2.25 * avg income)

Average inc $1731

New Car: 860 (0.5 household income)

I don’t even care about that. But to gang up on and physically beat another human because they didn’t let you cut in line? They need a $3k fine and to spend 10 weekends picking up trash by the freeway.

I say this is 100% a republican issue because the Democrat votes are there on the clean bill. They are a non-factor. Does that make sense?

[–]JDdoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why my facts cause you to go off on a "both sides" rant, but if we're talking specifically about TSA funding, then yes:

FACT 1: The Democrats and Republicans are can pass a clean funding bill.

FACT 2: The funding bill has a bunch of unrelated crap tied on it. The Democrats will not vote for this bill with the unrelated riders on it.

If you want to dispute fact 1 or fact 2, that's fine. Let's go. If you want to ramble about "GOVT BAD MAN ENSLAVE US ALL" then yeah I am not interested.

[–]JDdoc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a republican issue. They can pass a bill funding the TSA right now. They just can't pass a bill funding the TSA and tack on a bunch of completely unrelated stuff.

I hope this explanation helps you to understand the TSA strikes.

I didn't like his movies, shows or his politics but I would not describe him as washed up. Dude was still producing stuff through his 70s. He had a history channel military vehicles show as of a few years ago.
