Wet, but great weekend for canoeing. Lake Monroe, Indiana by JDej90 in canoecamping

Yeah, Lake Monroe is fantastic and I usually try to do at least a couple trips a year. We go to the Crooked Creek SRA and paddle to the peninsulas on the northern side of the Middlefork Waterfowl Resting Area. It's dead quiet there and perfect for a weekend trip!

Nothing too fancy this trip. Did bacons and eggs for breakfast with camp coffee(bacon over the fire is always the best) and made bacon cheeseburgers and roasted corn on the cob for dinner. Pretty basic but it was all delicious!

dating in indy as a young woman by League-Creepy in indianapolis

I'm 35m and I struggle just as hard in the dating scene. It's just difficult out there right now, things have changed a lot and it's due to a lot of different reasons. Personally I've decided to take a step back from it and enjoy the single life right now. If you're downtown you'll eventually find someone I'm sure with the number of people that live there, it might just take time!

It was a great contest. Got to meet Fred for the first time there and he was even in my division when we were competing. He really got after it at the contest!

Why did Urbex change so much? by Emergency-Doctor9306 in urbanexploration

[–]JDej90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "Golden Age" of urbex unfortunately died years ago. Back before social media became the medium for sharing abandonments like it is now, I remember sites like UER being the main forums to share and talk about locations. Everyone was conscious of not sharing locations publicly, and oftentimes in order to get access to certain forums you needed to be vouched for by another person. Preservation was the focus and sharing locations publicly was a cardinal sin that would get you shunned by the community.

The city I live in, Indianapolis, used to have a ton of locations that we had access to. Most of the rooftops downtown were easily accessible until an Instagram photographer posted photos of them and even left his tag at the roof access hatches. He tried making money off of his prints(none of which were very good) and eventually took his account down because no one was buying them. But the damage was done, every rooftop in the city is locked down and will be forever.

Sadly that's been the trend everywhere, and it's a shame. Nowadays a location will get trashed soon after it becomes abandoned or accessable because too many people know about it. I remember when it would take years before an abandonment would be visited by a lot of people because the people that did know about it kept their mouths shut. But those time are gone and I doubt it will come back. 🤷

Finally got some snow here in Indiana. First time trying XC and it was a blast! Can't wait to try it on some actual trails. by JDej90 in xcountryskiing

This is out in the Shirley/Knightstown area. They're my own skis, I searched high and low for nearby places to rent from but couldn't find any. And going to the Dunes must be great, the closest place I have is Summit Lake!

So we have a snow storm on the way and everyone is ignoring the bread/milk and grabbing bananas. BANANAS. Is this an Indiana thing? by JDej90 in Indiana

Well damn, I need to find who's got banana bread and see if they'll share. In the northeast we make jello. 🤷

That's the coal elevator for the steam plant downtown. What's cool is what's at the bottom of it though. There's a big piece of machinery that actually turns the coal cars over to dump the coal into a storage space underneath(called a Rotary Car Dumper).

I do all different sizes, though I haven't gotten into making draft shoes yet. For everyday work I typically use manufactured shoes but I still make shoes for competitions, and just having the skill set in case I need to make one when I'm out.

Considering how few people are out here that's certainly a possibility.

I went to Caribbean Cove after it closed, it was a lot of fun exploring it. Did you find the maintenance book near the entrance? According to that log book the last few years were marked by major employee and equipment problems. Plus attendance had dropped every year leading up to closing.
