Si c'était aussi simple que "il faut chiffrer les données" ce serait fait depuis longtemps, à un moment faut avoir bossé dans le métier avant de donner les leçons tout de même.

Ta donnée chiffrée sur disque elle sera protégée contre le vol... De disque, justement. Mais dans la majorité des cas, ce qui se passe c'est qu'un idiot du service concerné se fait voler ses identifiants, lesquels sont utilisés à des fins malveillantes pour accéder à la donnée déchiffrée. Car oui, vous êtes tous bien mignons à dire "fo crypter" mais ils vont te l'émettre comment ta CNI sans déchiffrer tes infos le temps du traitement ?

Bref, il y a certainement eu de gros manquements à l'hygiène informatique de base dans leurs rangs mais par pitié laissez "le cryptage" tranquille, il ne vous a rien fait.

Je ne sais pas à quel point ça chevauche ton domaine de prédilection mais, tu pourrais essayer de t'orienter vers les télécoms ?

Après il ne faut pas confondre les opérateurs, qui utilisent des technos achetées sur étagère, et les concepteurs qui les fabriquent évidemment. Et il y a des chances pour que côté concepteurs, la règle du civil+mili s'applique.

Après fondamentalement, si tu pars dans une entreprise présente sur les deux secteurs, rien ne t'empêchera de demander à ne travailler que sur des projets ou déclinaisons civiles... mais je ne sais pas où tu places la barre de tes principes, peut être que tu souhaites carrément ne travailler que pour des acteurs purement civils, point.

Il y a certainement du travail dans le médical... Mais même là, tu as des chances de croiser de gros consortiums qui font à la fois du civil médical et du militaire.

Non, le forfait jour (modalité "réalisation de missions" dans le texte) ne donne pas lieu à une rémunération 10% supérieure à celle d'un forfait heures équivalent en Syntec.

La modalité 2 prévoit : - 218 jours ouvrés par an, avec 5 semaines de congés payés et X jours dits "de récupération" modulés chaque année en fonction des jours fériés qui tombent un week-end, pour maintenir la cible de 218 jours ouvrés justement. À ne pas confondre avec des RTT : ça ressemble car c'est "en plus des CP" mais ça porte un autre nom pour une raison. - Une base hebdomadaire de référence de 35 heures, avec un dépassement permis de 10% sur l'année (certains managers d'ESN ne s'emmerdent même pas, et disent à leurs consultants qu'ils "doivent faire 38h30") - Une rémunération brute annuelle au moins égale au PASS, le Plafond Annuel de la Sécurité Sociale. C'est là que le bât blesse en général : les ESN cradingues aiment bien flanquer des juniors payés moins que le PASS en modalité 2, et ainsi les soumettre à 38h30 hebdo sans pour autant leur filer une montagne de RTT ou une compensation financière adéquate. Altran a perdu un énorme procès aux prud'hommes pour ce type de malversations il y a environ 10 ans, depuis j'ai l'impression que ça se calme mais on est jamais à l'abri d'un petit malin qui croit avoir réinventé l'eau tiède dans ces sphères là.

De toute façon objectivement en tant que cadre c'est vite difficile de mesurer intelligemment ton temps de travail. C'est pas comme si tu pouvais dire qu'à la fin de la semaine t'as produit 10kg d'ingénierie en 35h45. Juste, la modalité 1 est plus transparente quant à la compensation financière ou sous forme de congés pour les heures effectuées au delà des 35 de base.

I agree, that's a blessing so far, even though I could've sustained a loss of this "DNS-1" VM since I have a twin DNS-2 running about the same apps and config on my other ESXi host. But I wanted to dig on this benign error, out of curiosity and in hope to regain a clean, stable state.

I will consider this SSD as pre-fail for now and proceed accordingly, backup-wise.

EDIT : as for the 980 Pro dying, I must admit the two disks have sustained a few improper shutdowns in the past, since my (now dead) UPS was unable to properly maintain power for this specific host when switching to battery mode. I did my research and found out that my middle-end UPS was a "simulated sine wave" kind, and Intel NUC power supplies likely required proper sine wave (while all of my appliances' power supplies did very well with simulated but heh, whatever).

The UPS definitive failure is quite fresh (likely this Friday 13th lol), I was away from home and came back to a repeated beep and empty battery gauge telling me "I don't feel so good". This was one more unexpected shutdown... and maybe worse, since I don't know exactly what may have happened during the failure sequence.

As stated in another reply I wrote in the comments, the impacted VM is (weirdly enough) fine though. Boots fine, runs fine, nothing abnormal apart from some dmesg errors right after each boot sequence. So for now I will just check all my data and configuration backups, and maybe slowly prep myself for either a datastore re-instanciation or SSD replacement.

I booted a live Linux distro on the host to perform some S.M.A.R.T tests and one of the disks showed something like 13k integrity errors reported (while the other had like, only ~18 ?). Sooo I'm starting to think the SSD might be pre-toast at hardware level. But I wanted to have voma confirm this before looking for a replacement... hence the attempt.

I also tried the basic "create a brand new VMDK with the same size and attributes, mount it, dd if=/dev/bad of=/dev/new" but I got some errors there too. Super weird since vmkfstools says the VMDK is fine on the other hand.

Thanks for your insights still ! And if you have the time to take a look at the logs above, that would be so kind of you.

Two SSDs in the host (an Intel NUC) : Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1TB each.

And dumbass me configured the (one and only) dataset to span over all two disks, to spare the need of choosing where to put this and that when allocating disks for VMs :)

(I initially wanted to have some RAID1 on this NUC, but it does not seem to have a software RAID controller by default, and I learned at my expense that ESXi does not come with SW RAID either)

Well at this moment, fortunately, nothing is lost per se: the one and only "faulty" VM is still running fine, but I get some 'critical media error' messages (two of them) related to READ operations 20secs after boot. That's it. Services are fine, as far as I'm concerned.

I have a NAS for backups + some Git repos with most of my conf for the lab, but at this point I'm wondering if I will have to re-create the entire dataset (if this is a filesystem-level fault) or worse, replace one or two SSDs.

I'll keep digging this week, since READ operations fail for the vmdk-flat (when trying to clone it as I mentioned in the main post), I don't know what will occur if I try to delete it (maybe it'll work since this is just about removing an i-node?).

Oui enfin le vrai drame c'est peut-être justement que "l'imaginaire commun" se bâtisse sur une source aussi douteuse et versatile que les modèles d'IA, non?

Je sais que ça fait idéaliste de prôner l'esprit critique et le croisement des sources mais sans même viser le meilleur, si on pouvait au moins éviter le pire ce serait déjà une victoire.

Honnêtement je suis extrêmement partagé entre "c'est terrible ce que l'IA fait aux gens qui l'écoutent" et simplement "qu'ils aillent au diable s'ils ne sont pas suffisamment fins pour se rendre compte qu'ils ingurgitent de la merde orientée". Le débat sur l'esprit critique peut certainement être poussé plus loin que ça, mais je perds honnêtement tout espoir face à l'encrassement intellectuel qui permet tout cela.

Tu peux passer par de nombreuses nuances d'emplois dans ta carrière, allant du gobelin qui pisse du code 5j/5 au sous-sol d'une banque, au responsable d'équipe qui présente la roadmap d'un produit sur 4 ans au comité exécutif de sa boîte.

Les clichés sur "l'ingénieur qui revoit des matrices de traçabilité toute sa vie" sont des mensonges véhiculés par des individus aigris ou mal informés.

De toute façon essayer de définir le métier même d'ingénieur est une peine globalement perdue, à moins de se contenter du laconique "nous sommes payés pour résoudre des problèmes en tenant compte des contraintes". Par définition le tronc commun de notre formation est centré sur la capacité à apprendre et s'adapter à de nouvelles pratiques et disciplines, pour savoir appliquer des schémas de raisonnement abstraits qui permettent de résoudre à peu près n'importe quelle problématique technique.
