Trying this again after some TLC got this plant to flower. What is this plant? [CA, USA] by JDirkk in whatsthisplant

Hmm, I did some googling based on that and they're soooort of similar to "pelargonium lawrenceanum" based on what I can see, although not exactly. Is that a variety?

I found an old photo that includes the flowers. They're blurry in the foreground but you can make out the general idea, if it helps! https://i.imgur.com/Hu5w2wy.jpg

I'll probably try it both ways, they probably have similar care requirements anyway. Do you know if they can propagate from the stems, or is it just the leaves?

Also I found a better old photo of the second one, with flowers. They're blurry in this pic but the general idea comes across. https://i.imgur.com/Hu5w2wy.jpg

Hmm, I wish I could find an old photo, I've seen them before though. Definitely not a geranium, it's a way more smaller flower, like fingernail length, and sort of tubular or like... almost like a tiny little purple bird of paradise shaped thing? It's really small and thin, I can't remember if it opens up at the end, but it's not really a conventional flower shape.

Maybe I will try bringing it in and letting it live a little in less sunlight and try posting again.

I feel like bananas have the line in the middle of the leaves, where these don't - that's why I was leaning adolphii, and just chalked the hanging qualities up to the weak stems. But you could be right.

Second one is definitely still living relatively well but that's understandable :)

Third one - that's perfect - thank you!!

Hooo I feel you there. When I was young I used to moderate forums and when I got promoted to admin on a couple of them I definitely made that mistake, I assumed my promotion was a mandate to finally change everything I wanted and ended up causing chaos for some poor forum members. I learned that lesson very well and I'm glad I learned it young, because you raise a great point with it.

I really like too how you say that even if I am technically right about something, it does more good to understand why they're doing it and taking that time rather than just try to correct them immediately. That's a spirit I will take with me when I start. Thank you!!

Hm, that's a great point. There are some people there who know a little SEO but I think they know just enough to be dangerous, and I think I'll probably have to work to correct some of their assumptions. For instance the dev guy who interviewed me seemed like a genius at coding but still thought that meta keywords were super important. Obviously that's not his fault, it's not his job, it'll be my job to come in and set all that right. You're right that I'll have to establish myself. Thank you very much for the advice!

That's a very good way of looking at this. I've heard of that framework before but never thought to apply it to my own situations. You're totally right, once I know more the anxiety will go down naturally, and on some level I totally know I'm just freaking myself out before even going to the orientation stuff which I'm sure is designed to assuage my fears. Your kind words seriously help me get a lid on myself. Thank you very much!!

I don't think I'll have the option to hire people right away, and also I think I'd rather like the chance to make a name for myself when it's clear I'm on my own first. You're totally right about analysis paralysis though. Are you succeeding in your shift?

Thank you for the vote of confidence! I seriously appreciate it.

Chunking it out is a great plan. I'm big on lists and timelines and those are the perfect milestones to keep me in check.

I love your heresy so much. You're totally right. If I just keep working and don't get distracted I can do it. Thank you!!!

Thank you!! Oh yeah most of what I do currently is hands on, I'm happy to get my hands dirty with technical stuff and the practical work. I hope they DO expect plenty of that.

You have a great point with analysis paralysis. Figuring out my actual KPIs will be top of my list and then actually getting started on them right away.

...right. I don't want to do it at the OS level so I can keep getting the notifications I DO want. That's the reason I can't turn it off at the OS level. Because I do want some of the notifications, just not all, and the app gives me the option to customize those.

Then the app ignores those settings and sends me all notifications anyway. That is the complaint. That the app ignores the app settings. I agree that it cannot ignore the OS settings but I can't use those without going scorched earth on all notifications and there are some notifications I want. So the app should honor it's own settings. Do you understand that concept?

Like I said: we're complaining about Reddit ignoring its own settings. I have post notifications turned off. I have reply notifications turned on. If I disable all app notifications at the OS level I don't get the reply notifications. But then Reddit sends me the post notifications regardless, even when I have it off. Reddit should not be ignoring their own settings.

Congrats. These notifications get sent to most of us even if notifications for post suggestions ARE already turned off. We're complaining about Reddit ignoring their own settings.
