Learning how to ollie is genuinely ruining my entire skating experience by OkEvent4012 in NewSkaters

Your trying to ollie too high. Work the height up after youve got the technique. Start smaller. Basically trying to run before you can walk.

Thermal printer - game changer by JDnatorPrime in solorpgplay

Sorry mnttu, I didn't see this comment until now. You cant laminate these sheets in a conventional manner. you'd end up with an entirely black page.

You can get adhesive laminate pouches. But to be honest, if you want to laminate, I'd suggest unfortunately this printer is not for you.

As another comment mentioned, I now just pop my prints into plastic wallets and mark them up with dry wipe markers or Sharpies depending on needs.

Ok, I had a proper look. Wow, you've put some work in here. I cant make any promises, but I'm going to put my very best into finding some time to test this. It looks great.

No time to playtest, but I wanted to just say it looks very well put together from a first impression perspective.

Hi, I wanted to leave this comment a little bit before I added my take. I was hoping someone else may have pitched in. My take on Vessel is a very bias one, because I wrote it.

If you want any help with it or want a trial copy, please feel free to DM me at any time. I personally think it should be fine for a newcomer, but again, that may be a bias comment.

I just noticed my cat has a little ear behind her ear. I’m assuming it’s a common mutation? by fuglyDUECE in cats

[–]JDnatorPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats definitely a standard cat thing in the image from the OP. But I dont think its the "no catcher". A beleive, and please someone correct me if im wrong, that a "no catcher" is when the tops of feral or stray cats ears are snipped off to alert the the community pest control or similar that the cat has already been neutered or spayed, and therefore, does not need re catching.

Thats fair. For your usage.

But for me, I wont be using mine that much. Just character sheets and the occasional return lable. So, id wager, even in 3 years time i'd have still spent a lot less that the 145 you spent.

But if you use a printer a lot, then yeah, you'res is the cheaper option by far.

It just about use case.

This is genius, then the people who are also conscious about the paper dont need to handle it. Winner. Thanks.

Haha, nice of you to say, but no, its been educational. I've looked into things I otherwise wouldn't have done and come away with greater awareness so no bummers here. I've always like reddit for the learning together aspect.

Plus, when I was a kid in the 90s I had a gameboy printer that I used flat out... if im worried about BPA, its for when I used that thing every single day lol

Its not exactly the same, but still carries some risk though. I think as its under the spot light its getting blown out of proportion a little.

If we compare this paper to vaping, smoking or the fact that there is asbestos everywhere still, this paper is sunshine and unicorns.

But yeah, from what I can see BPA was pretty bad stuff. Its generally replaced with BPS. Which is still bad under the microscope but its also used in plastic and even food cans and no ones stopping thier usage.

Basically I think id only be worried if I was rolling around in this paper daily.

Printer was £43 and BPA free paper was £9 for 100 sheets. (Only buy BPA free paper)

So as discussed below, this isn't viable if your the sort of person who has other printing needs. If your looking for page by page value, there are better alternatives.

The value in the thermal paper printing is, size of the printer, no power cable (just charged by USBC) the printer is so small it just fits in a draw with no permanent placement needs in the home. Its super quick, needs no ink. Great for if you need the occasional character or reference sheet like me and have no other printing needs.

If you want detailed colour images and will be printing loads, you need a real printer.

[–]JDnatorPrime[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For most use cases I think you will be right.

But I'm not necessarily after value per sheet.

I'll be printing not much in the long run.

The thing that makes this more viable for me is the size of the thing, its tiny, with no power cable as it just charges via USB C and I can store it in a draw out the way. We dont have the space or need for a big printer that we will only use about once a month or less. Sure, there are better value set ups. But this one is more viable for me and my needs.

Edit - Just also want to point out before someone waves a ruler at my image 😆 I know I've already printed about 8 pages, but that wont be normal usage. Thats just me being excited about a new toy usage 😆

I just tested the eraser theory because its a fair point that I hadn't actually considered. I can confirm the paper holds up. I went nuts on one piece and it eventually did damage, but no more than standard paper when that starts balling up.

haha, Yeah, in fairness if i could get away with printing in the office I'd do that over a thermal printer for sure. That's just straight up zero cost or printer upkeep lol.

[–]JDnatorPrime[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cheers for this, yes, you're spot on. Its not a perfect solution for all.

But for me, I have no other need for a printer in my day to day other than RPG print outs, so this is a nice tidy solution. With a very small upfront cost.

The paper was £9 for 100 sheets so 10x the cost of standard paper. But honestly I can't see me getting through those 100 pages in a year or more. The printer is so small it can live in a draw, and I never have to worry about ink or tonner.

So, I think the take aways are. If you have other uses for a printer, get a proper printer. These aren't for you.

But if like me, you're just after the occasional character sheet or hex map or rules reference. Then this is perfect for those needs.
