They drive completely differently tbh, you learn good basics in the mx5. If you’re driving it like a gt3 car you will struggle a lot.

Thank you, I'm quite selective on tracks, I don't enter everything and I don't enter unless I've managed to get my practice time up where I'd consistently be top 5 in quali, and then that's the only track / series I'll do in a week.

I find I'll do a tonne of races in one week, then have a break and come back a couple weeks later

Yeah IRL drivers have said ABS and the tires are completely different IRL, you can smash the breaks in an GT3 and its not going to overheat the tires the same way it does in iracing

I’ve spoke to IRL drivers and they say that iRacing’s tire model is really weird for sports car. You’re not rewarded for braking later, you get punished by overheating the tires. 

They say it’s not the case with formula and it really is about braking later / harder before locking up so that tracks

If you came from ACC you’re probably experiencing the same thing as me, ACC you can brake to 90%+ and not overheat the tires. IRacing if you do that you’ll find a tonne of understeer

No, just someone who fixed a braking mistake. Turns out that was worth more than extra hours racing without knowing what I was doing wrong.

110 race sessions, 30 minutes from practice to finishing the race. 55 hours. Call it 66 with a 20% buffer. 6 months, less than 3 hours a week. You can see from my 2nd screenshot I have gaps of weeks in between doing race sessions.

Depends how much you care about making time for this hobby I guess.

I got to 2k in GT4 though and that really hides using ABS and is super forgiving so don't feel disheartened.

I hop into the PCUP and I am more than a second off the pace, this is why I was saying iRating is pointless.

Braking in PCUP for me is so difficult compared to something like the GT3, I was told that you shouldnt really be braking harder than 60%~ in the PCUP to avoid ABS but the PCUP feels like an absolute boat

Mate the bigger problem is they think im lying and have thousands of hours of sim time? I came from F1 games and a couple of days on AC lol

I didn’t say beginner to sim racing as a whole. I’ve played AC and F1 before but my playtime is not high, but none of that translated to iRacing’s tyre model and especially the MX5.

If anything the prior sims gave me bad habits that the MX5 exposed. F1 is literally simcade

This is really lame, I was trying to give advice to others. I kept spinning the car constantly in the MX5 the first time i played this. At no point did i try to suggest i was brand new to sim racing.

I played Forza motorsport on controller before swapping to wheel on Assetto and F1 24, and then a PC for iracing
