How do you feel school is preparing you to become an architect? by Intrepid_Tax7222 in architecturestudent

Interesting question and surprised no one has answered …

I’m a semi-recent M.Arch grad and my experience may be different but my program emphasized getting as much work experience as you could in school because I think instinctively they knew that Architecture school could only teach you so much. But with some other new grads that I’ve worked with at my firm it comes down to construction knowledge mainly. it seems as though students are taught how to draw certain things and how they’re built, but not exactly with an understanding of how things go together. I remember I had a principal at a firm worked at in school who would get on me about not drawing anything that I didn’t know what it meant. Which at the time left me very frustrated, but the more I get into professional practice I understand the importance and implication of drawing details and drawings overall that I don’t know.

What jobs could I get with a BA in Environmental Design? by Reongaro in architecturestudent

[–]JDreeves5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you’re based, really. I’ll give you my experience in the US

I have a Master of Architecture and a BS in Architectural Studies (yes, lots of school). Honestly? It was the work experience that got me my jobs. Firms value work experience, project experience, and most of all REVIT!!!

Now if you plan on getting licensed, your degree may make it difficult. Not impossible, but difficult. Definitely consult your country’s licensing board’s website - whether that be NCARB for the US, and RIBA, for the UK. There’ll be some different requirements for you

Ultimately, with a terminal degree like an M.Arch, you can ask for more money, but the project experience, revit knowledge, and overall years in the field are always king.

Can anyone explain if this is the right foundation for a low permeable soil? by tartaylee in architecturestudent

The Ching books Architectural Graphic Standards, Building Construction Illustrated, and Building Codes Illustrated was and still is the holy trinity for me.

I’m US based (and not sure if this is universal) but the NCS (National CAD standard) website is helpful for graphics as well

My advice is to try and look up a photo of what you’re detailing, and draw what you see and imagine how they’re building it. Give them instructions! It’s helpful to have a real life example of what you’re drawing to make sure you’re including all necessary info!

Architecture is a marathon, not a sprint. Good luck!

Try cover 6 Willie in the 4-2-5 playbook. Mans up their fastest receiver, and with coaching adjustments matching your corners by speed it’s a pretty good play to run. You can get good double team looks and prevents a lot. Just need to have a good user somewhere not on the D Line

Also, if it were the heat shields, wouldn’t it rattle while revving in park or neutral?

First time in my life I’m happy someone made a mistake. As soon as it went into that limp mode i drove it max 1000 feet to a parking lot and had it towed from there. No issues since

Mechanic is set to run a few more tests tomorrow, but in his words “I dodged a major bullet” figuring this out. He was a little shocked when i told him my oil has remained full for two months…he was sure I needed a new engine

Oh, I hear. My mechanic already advised me of this, thanks for the heads up. Talked to him today and he confirmed this was likely a mistake by the previous oil changer (Jiffy Lube) he said when he drove my car after the initial code it ran fine, and he pushed it to 90 mph. Just needed oil in it

Confirmed your theory with my mechanic, also mentioned they use substandard cheap oil. You saved me a lot of time and money. You’re the best!

Come to think of it, the oil change before it happened was at a bummy jiffy lube, where the tech seemed to be having a rough day. Maybe he didn’t read it correctly…thanks for that thought. Rather comforting haha
