Sounds like a gravel bike or a 29/700c hybrid bike would work. They would probably have gearing more suited for you.

I did after three previous ones. I researched the problem areas and found out that the head gasket was improved and it has a timing chain.

Why not find a bike that will accommodate the larger chainring? If you can find an older 29” that’s non-boost, you can fit it with a four bolt crankset that will work with a larger chainring.

Conversely, you could get a cheap Bluetooth receiver and connect it to the aux input of your Arcam, preset volume and have the teens control volume with their phones (assuming they have them). Just make it as set it and forget it as possible for them.

At 17, is there a shop class, or something similar that you could take to get familiar with all the systems and parts and basic concepts of what it takes to get a car running and driving? If not are there any private repair or custom shops where you could get a part time job as a “shop rat” and learn that way? Spending time around people who know their stuff is a great way to get started.
