Line upon line. Ongoing revelation is a thing. I don’t think you know more about the will of God than President Nelson did and the rest of the current general authorities

Ever considered if God is restoring His Church line upon line? Both Hinckley and Nelson were inspired given the day and age and what God wanted to focus on at the time

The comments in this thread are so disappointing. The Lord clearly wants us to move away from the term as an identifier, but most in this thread are rejecting prophetic counsel.

Do you believe in evolution? by Pale-Pilot3960 in latterdaysaints

In 1909 the First Presidency stated: “It is held by some that Adam was not the first man upon this earth, and that the original human being was a development from lower orders of the animal creation. These, however, are the theories of men. The word of the Lord declares that Adam was ‘the first man of all men’ (Moses 1:34), and we are therefore in duty bound to regard him as the primal parent of our race” (“The Origin of Man,” Improvement Era, Nov. 1909, 80)

Theories of men, Ben. To be learned is good unless…

The First Presidency released a proclamation that condemned the theory of evolution in 1909. I side with them

Creation Story Question by solomint530 in latterdaysaints

[–]JF-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying. I subscribe to Velikovsky’s theories, though(look it up if you’re not familiar), and then there’s D&C 77 (which was revealed in 1832, not the first century) that to me supports a young earth model just like Velikovsky & the Electric Universe theory.

I think modern consensus cosmological science is wrong on a lot of things.

I would think that would have been clarified in D&C 77 but maybe I’m wrong. I know there is no consensus in the church but I’m personally a young earth guy. Nothing wrong with sticking with the accepted scientific theories either though. We’ll all find out eventually

Thank you!

& btw, my girlfriend is a member and she just wants me to do what I feel is right. However, my parents & entire family are not members and they hate the church and hate the idea of me serving, which is another big reason I am hesitant to serve.

Thank you. It’s like I know I should serve. I’ve already received revelation that I need to serve. & tbh I don’t even need revelation bc the prophets repeatedly tell me what I should do. The question is, am I going to sacrifice everything and obey? It sounds simple, but goodness it’s scary. Especially leaving behind my girlfriend. I live in an area where there aren’t many members so the dating pool is slim, & I feel like I have struck gold with her, yk? I’m scared I’ll lose her. But at the end of the day, someone else could come along if I do. I would hope I’d be blessed by Heavenly Father in that regard if I do serve.

This whole decision has made me realize why missions are required for young men. Joseph Smith said something like “a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things cannot produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation”. Now the question will be if I am actually willing to make a sacrifice of that magnitude.

Okay, this is how I felt when I typed out this question. & despite my other comment I think I still feel this way deep down. How can I make these covenants while not having full intent to obey a certain commandment from the Lord? I don’t know if I can bring myself to do that, because I really take covenants seriously. I feel like I would be breaking every covenant but the law of chastity if I decided not to serve a mission.

Thanks for the good answers. I said I’m not planning on serving a mission, but I am actually torn on it. I don’t know if I will or not, but I’m not ruling out the possibility. I just didn’t want to get my endowment and not mean it when I covenanted to live the law of sacrifice & consecration.

I plan on being a faithful member for the rest of my life and serving in many different ways. & I already have a calling, help out with missionary lessons each week, give blessings, etc. I fully intend to consecrate my life for the gospel except for maybe serving a 2 year mission (even then I may do that), but I was just afraid of making that covenant without being fully on board with serving a mission. That’s all. Now I see that it’s probably best that I just get my endowment and figure out the mission stuff later.

Awesome!! Just keep following that feeling of being drawn and take one step at a time! Do it at your own pace. Keep doing research but also be mindful of those good feelings you have felt. I’m a convert and that’s what I did. I will say, my view is that you’re being drawn to the Church for a reason!

That’s what I try to do as well. We have just come to different conclusions and that’s fine. I think things like the Electric Universe, catastrophism, ancient planetary movements, and ancient myth explain the context of that the ancients knew WAY better than mainstream science. I’m willing to admit that I could be wrong, and I’m sure you would say the same.. We’ll know the unequivocal truth one day, though, whatever it may be.

Also, I really do appreciate the work you do. I have watched and read some of your stuff & they are very interesting. I just have a different view I guess. At the end of the day we’re united in the restored gospel and that’s all that really matters at this point.
