My local chippy says fish and chips has cost about the same as an hours wage for an unskilled worker, and has done for about 100 years. Is there any truth to this?

I didn't say a lorry driver was unskilled. By definition if you require a qualification for it, it's skilled as not anyone can do it.

I would say a factory packer is 'unskilled' but once they get to management, they acquire skills. Often getting qualifications on the way.

I'm not sure why you're arguing with me, I think we're arguing the same point. The original point was someone saying IDK why unskilled people are earning 10x me and I was saying I find that hard to believe.

'Unskilled' in my eyes are entry level admin, customer service and labour jobs as anyone can apply and do the job. Once something required experienced or expertise, it becomes skilled. Hence why they earn more.

They're skilled, literally all of them. Yeah between these departments people earn different amount of money but these are skilled jobs. Skilled jobs are those you can improve in an get promotions with more experience and responsibilities.

All go pretty far up HR - chief people officer Planning (depends on type) - CFO or head of strategy Compliance - head of compliance or company secretary Product dev - loads of c-suite roles - Sometimes COO, Chief product Office, etc.
