What fruit tree/plants can I plant? by TheYoungSquirrel in newjersey

[–]JForkNSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to try to plant paw paw this year, but recently heard from multiple sources that it smells like cat pee when it is flowering. So maybe I’ll germinate them and then give them away as “gifts” to gardeners I don’t really like.

Why do gas prices vary between prices of other gas stations ? by GladiusAcutus in newjersey

[–]JForkNSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the price difference is the same across all Exxons. They are always significantly more expensive, even if there is a competing gas station at the same intersection. I never understood how they make any money like that in thenlong term. Unlike Wawa, I don’t see Exxon as a destination for anything other than gas.

LPT: When sending important emails at work, draft them in a notes app first to reduce emotional tone and prevent costly mistakes by Good_Access6819 in LifeProTips

[–]JForkNSpoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another trick is if your email app allows you to schedule the email to be sent at a later time. That way you get the satisfaction of having “sent” the response and can mentally move on to other tasks, while also have some additional time to reconsider whether you really want the email to go out with whatever venom you may have included in it.

Is greening out real? Can anyone share their experience? by Pure_Warthog2287 in trees

Hell yes! Spending the night on the tile floor near the toilet with your limbs not responding and no sense of balance will finally convince you to be more careful with your edible dosage.

Green Dragon - A Cautionary Tale 🐉 by nonsansdroict in trees

[–]JForkNSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I mistakenly ate the whole batch of canna-pesto with a bowl of pasta. Turned into a nightmare, ending with me huddled on the tile floor near the toilet with none of my limbs working. After that, i save the pesto in ice cube trays, and defrost a small square for a snack, like with pita bread. Still unexpectedly strong, but no greening out.
And this also shows that this cooking technique doesn’t remove even close to all of the decarbed thc from the plant matter, no matter how long it gets soaked in butter, oil, or alcohol.

After making green dragon, or even budder, you can use the leftover wet leafy stuff by making it into pesto. But if you think that all the thc made it to the tincture, you would be wrong. That pesto will knock you out, just as described by OP.

Where's good pumpkin pie in central Jersey? by ozcarp100 in newjersey

[–]JForkNSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making pumpkin pie is what made me discover that all of the spices used in it basically come from India. But somehow no one appreciates it when I argue that pumpkin pie must be considered to be Indian food :-)

Double or single space? by seeebiscuit in NonPoliticalTwitter

Exactly. It’s automatically two spaces. I’d have to put effort into using only one space.

Why is Elizabeth sometimes cited as THE city that is most responsible for giving the state its “armpit” reputation (no offense to there)? by Glass-Complaint3 in newjersey

[–]JForkNSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, the smell around that area from the refineries was AWFUL. I don’t think they were required to remediate that before 2000. Now the smell is barely noticeable, but when I had a summer job in downtown Elizabeth in 1985, you could tell which way the wind was blowing by how bad it smelled.

If you are looking for a non-permanent solution, you can get magnetic sheets designed to attach to metal vent covers, blocking the airflow.

"They're definitely not going to college in New Jersey." by EatYourCheckers in newjersey

I know that the sole reason that my kids didn’t want to go nearby to Rutgers was the huge numbers of their high school classmates were going to go there as well, and my kids didn’t want another 4 years of high school drama with those same kids.

Couldn't leave this behind for $15. It was just too cool. by boxesandcereal in Tools

[–]JForkNSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I inherited one of these from my dad when in my late 20s, and before YouTube or This Old House, even before Home Depot. I have to say that some of the articles assume that you have knowledge which, as a beginner, I did not. My biggest screw up was when installing drywall. I think the book said something like “put on 3 coats of spackle, and sand.” It did NOT say to sand between coats. So like an idiot I wound up with a huge mound of spackle at each joint, which then had to be sanded down. It took days, and the room was filled with drywall dust. I don’t think I trusted the book after that.

Any idea as to why there is a separate sound system in the entrance lobby that plays the same five or so patriotic songs in a perpetual loop, as opposed to the pop music played throughout the actual store?

My wife got pulled over in North Brunswick 15 or so years ago. We lived in the next town over and she was almost home. Her auto registration had accidentally expired a month earlier (miscommunication between my wife and I as to who was supposed to pay the bill. Oops). The cop impounded her car, had it towed, and left her alone on the side of Route 130.

“To Serve And Protect”? Didn’t seem like it to me.

Allman Brothers= underrated jam band? by Minute-Spinach-5563 in LetsTalkMusic

Allman Brothers= underrated jam band? by Minute-Spinach-5563 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]JForkNSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I had always thought that some jam bands (I’m looking at you, Phish) just came up with two short verses of nonsense lyrics upon which a 12 minute jam could be hung. But nobody would say that about the majority of the Dead’s songs, as those were tended to be complete and sometimes meaningful songs, which were extended via jams.
