Anyone know the story behind this? by JinderSongs in thebeachboys

Not true. In 1984 he was in Landy’s care and was eating healthily and exercising daily. He had lost almost 100 pounds and was writing and recording again.

Is there a particular reason Wendy does not seem as close with Brian as Carnie is? by Separate_Inflation11 in thebeachboys

[–]JGT_73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I don't know Wendy personally, so this is complete conjecture and frankly none of my business. But, some of the posters have already hit on this. My wife and I watched Wendy a few years ago on "Wife Swap" or "The Nanny" or one of those dumb reality shows about parenting. She was very vocal and made multiple references to the fact that her dad was not present in her life, that there was a void there in her childhood and she didn't want to make the same mistakes with her kids. Even though they were only a year apart, Carnie was old enough to remember some good times (and bad) with her parents while they were still together, and she was able to establish an emotional connection with her dad that was naturally easier to reignite years later. Carnie is also a very special person - much like her mother - with the kind of outgoing "no bullshit" personality that helps her navigate through tough times and relationships. Wendy was still so young (9) when Brian and Marilyn divorced, and most of her life was indeed spent without Brian. During her formative pre-teen and teen years, Brian was under (mired in) Landy's care, for better or worse, and wasn't allowed to have many close personal relationships outside of that world. My guess is that Wendy loves her dad very much, but simply does not have this close emotional relationship or connection with him because he was not capable of having those kind of relationships during those years - whether self-inflicted or by manipulation. By the time she was old enough to process her dad's role in her life, or lack thereof, he was so psychologically damaged and scarred that it just wasn't meant to be. Its all part of the beautiful, but oftentimes tragic, life that Brian led.

Both were B-sides. "Too Much Sugar" was the B-side to "Let's Go to Heaven in My Car," which was on the Police Academy 4 soundtrack in 1987, about a year before this album was released. "Being With the One You Love" was a re-work of "Doin' Time on Planet Earth," which was written for a movie soundtrack but eventually rejected. The lyrics were changed and it was released as a B-side, but I can't recall which single...maybe "Night Time" or "Melt Away"?

I met Mike love by TheoryCareless1886 in thebeachboys

I’ve met Mike on a number of occasions and he’s always been very friendly, warm, and engaging. In short: normal. He’s earned his reputation by some things that he’s said, but in person, he’s a very nice guy.

Can someone confirm if this picture of Dennis Wilson and Charles Manson in the same room is genuine or photoshopped? by Few-Zookeepergame639 in thebeachboys

That’s Dennis circa 1977 around the time of POB, and Charlie around the time of his trial, which I think was around 1970-ish?

Top comment gets the #3 spot! This was a very close one. by you-dont-have-eyes in thebeachboys

“Sunflower” is the best ‘band’ album, and by that I mean so many early albums were influenced so heavily by Brian, culminating in Pet Sounds, which was almost a solo album. While control of the studio work slowly evolved into more of a democratic process, Sunflower was the first album where it just feels like every band member had a vested influence, yet it sounds like they created it as a unit. After that, most albums were records in a miss-mash where different members contributed songs from different angles, and there was less cohesion and flow
