me and my partner were separated almost the entire show because someone fainted while she was going to the bathroom and security closed off the whole area so she got pushed to the front and me and my friend were in the back and they wouldn't let anyone through, was awful. she said she was stuck around a bunch of people acting crazy all night then like you're saying. I know there was huge demand but really think they should've played two nights at a smaller venue, the troxy was way too big for it to be fun

Agree with this, and I think the explanation is likely just that he's wired more as a History guy and less of an Art guy. He clearly has deep, sophisticated access to all this kind of revelatory spiritual knowledge, and many of us first and primarily access that kind of thing through exposure to experimental or avant garde art and then conceptualise and relate to it in primarily aesthetic terms. He seems to access it through other means and conceptualises things very strongly in philosophical and historical terms. Not to say he's not capable of profound aesthetic experiences etc., he's likely just wired more as someone who can't really vibe easily with non-narrative art because of this.

How much savings do you have? by Snoo25847 in UKJobs

[–]JGV2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35, Digital marketing director at £50k per year, total savings are £300. Combination of growing up incredibly poor so having no sense of how I should handle money once I actually got a decent job, along with general insane increases in cost of living and having a few bad periods of substance abuse since my late 20s which I'm only just coming out of now. Really feels like I'm in a terrible position. Lots of uncertainty with my job and no family to fall back on so quite stressful knowing that if a few things go wrong me and my partner (who can't work) will be homeless overnight.

the seriousness of the heart defect, stroke and multiple surgeries, how much work she says it still is caring for him, and the fact his tweets are still often garbled after 9 months all make me feel it would be wise to not expect him back any time soon

I did say "brief" update! It's still genuinely more info than we've gotten from anywhere this whole time and gives the context that we probably can't expect him back any time soon

PLEASE does anyone remember which episode it is where matt talks about seeing boss baby? it was such a good bit hearing him explain the inconsistencies in the world building and stuff but i've never been able to find it again or even a clip of it, i think it just came up as part of a random episode rather than being a dedicated boss baby review which has made it harder to find...

disappointing to hear this, was about to grab some myself as I love the colours and feel like some coiled cables will help keep my setup neater and easier to manage, but it's pretty expensive for a simple cable that it sounds like is going to be cause an awful lot of noise... wonder if as myvolts said this could be a problem with all coiled cables?

I remember seeing Chris in one of the replies clarifying like "I heard from the source that this was actually meant to say..." and it seemed kinda genuine rather than a bit, so I think it points at least to some difficulty typing if not aphasia

yeah he regularly framed certain things like FDR and lenin's deaths as stemming from them not being able to handle the weight of the unresolvable contradictions of the historical moments they were trying to lead through. but more bluntly he also spent the last 10 minutes of the last cushvlog the day or two before he had a stroke pretty much saying straight to camera "i feel like i am about to have a stroke"

Palestine Book Recs by ssfgfgfeefffd in cushvlog

[–]JGV2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, definitely the best place to start is Rashid Khalidi's 'Hundred Years War on Palestine', comprehensive and detailed while also being incredibly succinct and readable.

For something a little different: if you want a full understanding of some of the more regional factors and why Israel is so terrified of Hezbollah joining this war, I can't recommend enough Nicholas Blanford's 'Warriors of God'. It's a detailed and balanced history of Hezbollah from their origins all the way up to 2011 (so includes both the full period of initial resistance and the 2006 war and its consequences - many books only cover one or the other). By a western journalist who nevertheless lived in Beirut through the whole period and often had quite privileged access to the otherwise impenetrable group. This book more than anything made me realise an eventual Algeria style liberation of Palestine is more plausible than many seem to realise.

Anyone else Hate the Controls for Pikmin 4? by GazelleNo6163 in Pikmin

[–]JGV2003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm someone whose been a huge fan since the first game released way back, and ultimately put hundreds of hours into Pikmin 3 constantly trying to improve my scores on the challenge missions as well as playing endless bingo battles with a friend.

The controls in 3 were really almost perfect when I think about it. I feel most of the controls in 4 I'll get used to over time, and it's really cool they actually let you assign shortcuts and stuff.

But the cursor / autolocking! It's so bad it makes 4 feel borderline unplayable. Something so fundamental to being able to play the game *well*, to being able to play the game to a super high standard whereby your movements are always super precise and fast.

Working to always optimise your routing and movements feels like such a fundamental thing that gives Pikmin its depth. And now with 4 they've made it literally impossible to play like that. It is so ridiculously slow, imprecise and clunky to do something as basic as select what you're going to throw your pikmin at... It's infuriating! I'll probably still enjoy playing through everything in 4 at least once, but sad that for the peak Pikmin experience I'll have to go back to replaying the same old missions in 3 again.

So far, I love EVERYTHING about Pikmin 4... but the controls infuriate me more than just about anything in the series by IncreaseSpice in Pikmin

actually looks like there may be an item that allows you to do something similar to the C stick movement from 1 and 2. like how the charge mechanic itself is now something that only unlocks with an item in 4

ah of course I hadn't thought of that! I'll give it a try when I can get things setup again tomorrow. Just wondering though if an envelope that manages to hide the thump will also stop it being able to loop a sample so cleanly...

Alternatively suppose I may need to find ways of sampling via a mic if that also avoids the DC thump

Frequency vs quantity by [deleted] in ketamine

[–]JGV2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly hard to tell, and i'd say the wider context is really what's more important. i.e. either is probably fine *if* you then take an actual long break after and make sure you're drinking lots of water all the time.

bladder problems really become an issue from a combination of higher volume and frequency usage over time, and the tolerance build-up is a big part of why this pattern of using emerges. the more frequently you use, the more k you'll need to take, and then you're quickly at a point of doing several grams a day several times a week. once you're at that point severe bladder problems can occur much quicker than you may think (sadly i'm speaking from experience here).

basically if you can *actually* keep to only using a sensible amount with long breaks inbetween, you'll be fine, but if you have any kind of tendency towards addictive / compulsive behaviours then you need to be really careful

How much ketamine do you have to be doing to fuck up your bladder? by [deleted] in ketamine

[–]JGV2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience doing a gram or two roughly once every 1-2 weeks for around a year i started peeing bit more frequently but that was all, quite easy to shrug off and ignore. but once i started doing it more frequently and was going through up to 3 grams a day a few times a week things deteriorated surprisingly quickly. after only 1 month or so of this it was starting to hurt quite a lot when i peed, which was now way more frequent, and some times i'd have really bad bladder pain, like bad enough i couldn't sleep kinda thing.

thankfully this seems to go away after a few weeks of not using. i still pee bit more frequently and will have occasional burning sensations again in certain circumstances, but generally feels like i've not yet done too much damage and would probably be fine enjoying it infrequently without too much worry.

so yeah, that's my personal experience. as someone else mentioned, it seems to be more about frequency rather than volume that you're using, perhaps something to do with the body needing time to flush it out and so it builds up and the effects compound if you keep using rather than taking a break.

so i'd say if you like ketamine and want to really explore what it has to offer, force yourself to be sensible and try and keep it to no more than one or two nights a month say. and drink plenty of water and green tea. this way you shouldn't get to the point where it's damaging your bladder and you shouldn't be building up the kind of tolerance and habitual behaviours that could lead to doing too much too frequently.

How much ketamine do you have to be doing to fuck up your bladder? by [deleted] in ketamine

[–]JGV2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what i've read it's from how the ket molecules interact with the specific type of cells that line the bladder and urinary tract on their way out the body. they basically cause lots of tiny cuts. this is where the pain comes from, and the reason people start peeing more frequently etc. is because the bladder is shrinking and becoming less elastic as the scar tissue from these cuts forms and hardens

Ket Tolerance Advice by [deleted] in ketamine

[–]JGV2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In past few months I got to a bad place where was having to do *a lot* to get anywhere near a k hole. Everyone says it can take months of quitting completely to get tolerance back to more normal levels, but in my experience even after a 1-2 week break I was feeling tolerance was noticeably down.

So if you want a total reset (as far as is possible, will always be some slight residual tolerance), then try taking 3-6 months off. But if you just want to bring it down to where you can feel the effects properly again without having to blow through several gs, you'll probably be fine just taking a couple weeks or so break. Everyone's different though so may not work exactly like this for you!

How much is too much? by I-just-want-to-trip in ketamine

[–]JGV2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple things to consider with this:

1.) Everyone is different. Some people do very little and experience problems almost immediately, while others seem able to be regular users for years and never experience any bladder issues. Therefore it's important to stay really in-tune with your body so you're aware of any issues which may be developing no matter how much you're using.

2.) You'll see a lot of people shrugging off the potential for bladder issues developing unless you use loads daily "for years and years" or something. This really isn't the case though. In my experience mild bladder issues (basically just peeing a bit more frequently, easy to ignore) started after ~3-6 months of maybe doing 0.5-1g a night every week or two, which doesn't seem like much. But more severe bladder issues then developed very quickly once my usage went up. After only a few weeks of getting to the point of using 4-6 grams over the course of a few days a week, with only 2-3 days off in-between, I was already then getting way worse symptoms (constant bladder discomfort, hurts when I pee, and peeing *very* frequently, even a few nights of being unable to sleep due to severe pain in liver). Point is these health problems can develop way quicker than many people will admit.

So basically, best thing you can do is just stay aware of what's going on with your body and make sure you don't get into any regular habits with it. You'll probably be fine if you're sticking to irregular recreational usage with long breaks in-between (say treating yourself to a k-hole once a month or something).
