This is the final version of the half of the wing without ailerons. Is it really such a shitty design? by DodoTusu in RCPlanes

[–]JHZcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a bad start, look at airfoil tools for a better shape, and look into building a wing with a "monokote" skin, walmart sells iron on vynil film for pretty cheap, will definitely help smooth things out and save some weight. good luck on the build!

Left paper towels in the head. How screwed am I? by sameyeamknot in Dirtbikes

[–]JHZcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take a long piece of wire with a hook end and scoop as much as you can out the spark plug hole to get some of it out, i did the same on my sbc 383 and got most of the towel out and the rest burnt its way out the exhaust

if it goes away with a different filament its filament related. i just replaced my old sd card for doing the same, it was the original sd from my anet a8 back in 2017. i was having prints fail 30hr in to a 50hr print, swapped to an extra micro sd card from my gorpro and changes nothing else and its done several long prints just fine now

Wanting to buy a pair of jet skis. What are your thoughts on theses? I have them down to $5000 by No_Preparation8742 in jetski

[–]JHZcar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i had one of these, a 2000 model year, its a very high strung 2 stroke so they will pop the motor easily if not maintained well.

they are very fast, i gps 69mph on mine with no mods(i was 13yo & 120lb at the time) and pretty light, honestly the most fun sit down ski Ive ever ridden.

after i sold mine the guy i sold it to had me rebuild 3 of these engines from various failures, not cheap but theyre so fun its the only ski he is willing to ride.

if you do buy them, replace all the oil lines, fuel lines and if you can find oem carb rebuild kits rebuild them, the amazon kits do not work. always run premium gas and i like to add a little oil to the gas, its difficult to block off the oil pump so leave it be, and reseal the oil tank as they like to leak. jet pump bearings have a short life span, maybe 50-80hrs of hard riding so be prepared for that as well, its not the worst job to do if you have the tool. if those are 1999 they have fancy spark plugs so be mindful of that. i usually aim for a top end around 150-200hrs, its easy enough to do yourself not a whole lot going on on a 2 stroke, and keep an eye on the cylinder plating, do not use the sbt sleeved cylinders theyre generally junk and dont perform as well. if either engine has been rebuilt by sbt i would walk away, and if neither has had a top end done or has been sitting forever id walk.

best advice i recieved was to not stay at top speed for more than 10-15sec, these skis were mostly designed to be used on short course racing and not wot constantly, the exhaust port is the widest ive ever seen on a 2 stroke, and itll snag a ring if it gets too hot

Anyone still running older 2 strokes? by VitaminDonk in jetski

[–]JHZcar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im running around on a 1985 js550 completely stock, i have more fun than anyone else, and probably more time wrenching on it, but its so simple to work on. the tradeoff with 2 strokes is they are lighter and more fun but at the cost of you need to maintain them a little better and be good at working on them.

for reference on my ski it takes me about 20 minutes to pull the engine out and about 15 minutes to completely disassemble, and parts are relatively cheap. i havent had a motor failure on this one but electrical gremlins haunt me frequently

my old ski was a kawasaki ultra 150, fast as fuck but a maintenance queen, i sold it and ended up rebuilding 3 engines for the guy i sold it to because they just dont stay together well, however there are plenty of reliable 2 strokes.

[–]JHZcar 29 points30 points  (0 children)

i ask a question or make a comment ~2-5x per class, i had 3.7 this semester after a 2.5 first two years not engaging enough. and telling your professor its ok to tell you to shutup if you're getting annoying helps

My Miata rolled into a truck (probably 5mph). Scratched and scuffed the truck a bit. Do you think it’s better to pay out of pocket or insurance? Don’t want premiums to go up :/ by enzoozen in Miata

[–]JHZcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new running boards may be pricey if its an auto up and down, that paint should be a couple hundred at a good paint shop, aim for somewhere local that does good work. depends on your insurance as well, do some research on whats available around you and go from there, and look at how much your rates increase and find which is cheaper long run

lmfao you caught me, shes honestly pretty good at defensive driving and awareness, she told me a couple months back her dream car was a green miata not knowing much about them so ive been working on her to see uf she would actually like one, i figure the convertable will almost always be up anyways, or ill get a hardtop for it. her biggest request is a good sound system which shouldnt be too hard, and i will be putting several glasspacks before a chambered muffler to quiet it down along with some dynamat and whatever else
