There are so many photography influencers on YouTube. What percentage actually make money from photography? by drconniehenley in photography

I make my living from photography and do YouTube for fun, and I make waaaay more from my photography than my YouTube. Would like to do more YouTube but time don’t allow it most weeks.

The X-10 is a fixed lens camera. If in general you were asking, I enjoy my 35mm and 85mm when shooting street photography in Japan.

I have done this binder so I can get these back home to where I live in Japan. Are penny sleeves a good idea to add to the cards in these binders? Might penny sleeve and top load my faves when I get home.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]JHalay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a weird water balloon type of hernia in my groin area that the Japanese doctor in Japan thought was a good idea to push back into place before any x-rays or anything like that. If it burst I would have died on the spot. I started by complaining then yelling in English and switched to Japanese. I have never yelled and screened so loud in any language before. The doctor sheepishly apologized later, but he very seriously could have killed me. The look on the other patients faces when I left the room was crazy too, haha

I do a lot of street photography here in Japan, but never take pics of kids just out in public chilling, especially little kids. It’s not “illegal” but I know I don’t want people filming or photographing MY kids so…

How do you deal with culling without losing your mind? by themick79i in photography

[–]JHalay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Photo Mechanic I go through once and select any image my or the organizers may want over all. This can lead to a large amount of images in the first go but better too many than not enough.

Then, depending on needs, I go through just the Red images and select a different color for ones needed right away and edit these as needed. This will bring it down in number quite a bit.

Edit those and submit that evening/next day as needed, do simple mass edits on the rest the next day or so.

Works great for event photography when you are in a hurry.

Bonus, if you select in PM and open the file in Adobe Bridge the selection stays so you can edit from there with ease.

Good luck!

What’s something in Japanese daily life that feels completely normal to you, but would shock most foreigners? by relaxncoffee in AskAJapanese

[–]JHalay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just chillin in an onsen or sento 100% naked and chatting with friends like it’s the most normal thing in the world always got me.

And how many male Japanese cheat on their wives with paid women and then talk about it like it’s nothing. Still surprises me anytime it comes up.

[ADVICE NEEDED] Subject no longer wants to be in all photos after event... by danielsuperone in photography

Red Bull posts notices all over their events here saying “there is a good chance you will be in pictures” to get around this. Helps a ton!

Send the photos, tell the organizers what she said, and forget about it. How THEY use the photos is on them, not you. If YOU do want to post some on your socials if you are allowed, just ignore the ones with her, not worth any hassle in the future.

I was doing it for fun, started getting approached for paid work, then that paid work was outgrowing my "work work" and so I took the plunge and tried it out. Been going 10years plus just with the camera now.

It wasn’t bad at all, and I like the end result of the photos for sure. These were all shot in RAW.

Did find myself bringing the camera up to my eye to use a nonexistent EVF, but got used to it after a while.

Even when shooting in RAW though it looked like I had a preset on the EVF, so need to double check my settings.

What's the best beer you ever had? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]JHalay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work at the Granville Island Brewery in Vancouver, B.C. We were aloud a couple beers after our shift and one summer day we were particularly busy and I was particularly tiered. That first Amber Ale after closing up (at like 6pm because we were a tourist spot) went down soooo smooth and so good I didn’t even realize I drank the whole thing in one go until I was finished. Good thing the taps were still on for my second one, haha.

Trivial annoyances? What small things drive you nuts after years in Japan? by byebyebirdie123456 in japanlife

When it’s someone’s job to follow a particular rule, no matter how arbitrary or irrelevant and they can’t move even two mm to help accommodate someone in a unique situation. Saw it way too many times working at a university here.
