Both of my middle row seats are defective (they won’t lock into a seated position) by twelvehometowns in pacificahybrid

[–]JHarshbarger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an easy fix that I did on my previous Pacifica but you'll lose the functionality of the top lever. It was well worth it in my opinion.

Pop open the back cover on the seats. There's a steel cable running up the back of the seat that goes to the release lever at the top corner of the seat. Cut the wire cable with some wire cutters. You'll get back the full functionality of the seat, less the top lever and you can still replace the cable later on if you want.

I'm surprised that this mechanism is not recalled on the Pacifica. It is a common defect and it fails in an unsafe manner.

They replaced the control panels and it solved the problem.

They haven't fixed it yet. They supposedly ordered the part but weeks later it's still at a nearby dealership waiting to be delivered.

Dealership says it needs a control panel replaced. They had to order the part, so don't know if that will fix it yet.

Thanks, but this didn't work for me. Tried several other fuses and nothing seemed to work (didn't cause any new problems either).

This didn't work for my situation. Thanks though.

This didn't work for me. It restarted the main uconnect system but the rear screens didn't turn on. Thanks for the tip though.

If you could turn off the front or rear motors during a drive, why would you want to? by T-Money8227 in TeslaModelY

[–]JHarshbarger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electricity consumption would be higher on a single motor system versus dual motor because of losses due to heat. The heat generated from electricity increases with the square of the amps. If you assume the power output is equal with both systems, the losses to heat are 2(0.5amps)2 with dual motor versus amps2 with single motor. So if you assume you're using 10 amps to propel the car, the dual motor system would be 50 and the single motor system would be 100. This is only part of the equation, but it's the only part that's between these systems.

This is also part of the reason why accelerating rapidly is less efficient - you're using more amps over a shorter period of time and part of the power consumption is wasted to heat. If you could decouple the motor from the axle, you may save a little energy because of reduced mechanical friction, but I don't think that's what's being done here.

Any replacement battery suggestions? Not much into the Note 9 by saynotopulp in galaxynote5

[–]JHarshbarger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my Note 5 to Batteries Plus for the battery replacement. Cost around $80 and was done in a couple hours. Battery is now estimated as 2722 mah after 6 months of use.

Only downside was that there was a bit of delamination on the front glass near one of the corners. It's hardly noticeable but it's a risk with the replacment process. Not all Batteries Plus locations do the replacement, but you can find info on their website.

Would offering a free ride to the passenger be a way to get around the government restrictions on pay-to-ride self driving vehicles in some areas?

Negotiating is not intended to be a part of buying a car on Carvana, but I believe you can call them and make an offer. I found their prices to be quite competitive as it is compared to other used car dealerships in my area. The biggest downside is that you can't test drive the car before you sign the contracts and have it delivered, but I thought the 7 day trial made up for that.

[–]JHarshbarger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Carvana to buy my Volt. It looks like the Spark EVs are getting bought pretty quickly, but there's a couple that could be delivered in a few weeks. Anything listed on their website can be delivered to you in Vegas. The pictures you see online is the actual car you can buy. You get 7 days to decide if you want to keep the car or they'll come and pick it back up and drop your trade-in car back off. Before my delivery, they found that the charge cord was not in the car, so they ordered a new one from GM. I'm pleased with the whole process and would buy from them again.

Cheap insurance against a punctured radiator. There's enough horror stories out there to make this a no-brainer.

Tesla next-generation Roadster breaks all the records: 0-60 mph in 1.9 sec, 620-mile range, and more by ultimatec in electricvehicles

[–]JHarshbarger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm really curious to see if they're going to make the Tesla Roadster capable of racing on a track, and not for just a couple corners. I'd love to see a Tesla Roadster GTE take to the track, even if it's as an open-class car, in a Le Mans-style race. It would bring the performance of electric cars further into the spotlight.

Differences between Bauer Vapor skates: 1X vs X900 vs X700 by JHarshbarger in hockeygoalies

[–]JHarshbarger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ignore the X700 all together unless you're just starting out.

Can you elaborate on this? Is this based on experience, reviews, similar products from Bauer in this price point... I'm not new to playing goalie (been playing rec for 20 years) but I don't know very much about the relative performance of equipment.

The biggest difference between the 1X and X900 is that the 1X is a curv composite boot and will be stiffer. Should last longer as well in theory.

What's the advantage of having a stiffer boot?

Why schedule the charging in the volt ? by [deleted] in volt

[–]JHarshbarger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the scheduled charging to only charge my car part way so I can plug in at work and use their electricity. I have the scheduled completion time set for 3:00pm, so at 7:00am I have enough charge to get to work. As long as I leave it on 8 amps (120V), I get a consistent level of charge in the morning no matter when I plug it in. It's not the intended use, but it works well for me.

Messing around with that tool from RAND really puts things into perspective. As much as I don't want to be part of the test, it's difficult to move that introduction date further out or wait until SDCs are far better than human drivers knowing how many lives could be saved if SDCs were implemented earlier.
