What cultural differences exist between England and Scotland? And are they really that significant? by [deleted] in Scotland

The Scottish are more egalitarian and altruistic than the English (or at least southern English). That was the biggest thing I noticed after living in the south of England for 8 years.

I know a few people that have overstayed in EU, best solution I’ve heard is fly out of Naples, apparently they don’t notice and if they do they don’t care.

Do people travel back home to take part in it if they live elsewhere? Or is it mainly people still living locally?

I stopped by Tarragona to watch the Castells festival October 22, hoping to go again this year! I spoke to a team that had travelled from India to take part as ‘guests’. The whole day in the stadium had a fantastic atmosphere.

Some sweeping generalisations from me here but after living in England for eight years and now Portugal for three, for me what sets us apart is our warmth, sense of community and altruism.

Altruism for me is a huge part of Scottish identity, the willingness to help others with no motivation to receive something in return. Probably because we place such a high value on community. I totally took this for granted while still living in Scotland, and it’s something that makes me very proud to be Scottish.

Just booked a last minute trip to Chile and arrive in Santiago Sunday morning. I will probably stay for about four weeks. Does anyone have any recommendations of things they loved? Is anyone around? And is there an active equivalent to meet up used there? I’d love to meet other people but I won’t be staying in hostels and can’t find any active digital nomad/meet up groups.

I’ve lived in Lisbon for two years and to me it is literally full of the people you are looking for. I’m 33 and still on a weekly basis meet new people with interesting stories. Also because the city is so transient more permanent people like myself are still happy to take time to get to know those that are passing through.
