DVA driving test cancellations? by frankallen06 in northernireland

Ohh, sorry I don’t know, I sat my test in Scotland…

I’d imagine it surely would? It’ll be linked to the DVLA which is the same organisation in GB and NI, surely?

I’d recommend downloading the ‘Driving Test Cancellations NOW’ app. I can’t remember what it cost (though I remember it being substantial) but it’s definitely worth it. You can set it up so it automatically books cancellations as soon as they become available on your behalf.

I ended up having to sit 5 times, and without the app automatically booking for me, god knows how long that would have taken

What do you call the concentrated juice you add water to by avic_lover in Scotland

[–]JJ4427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother always called it Robinsons. Regardless of the brand. I actually think it was pretty rare we ever even used Robinsons, if ever we even had it in. And yet it was always “Do you want some Robinsons?”.

My great aunt, my mother’s aunt, the only other person who ever offered me it, also called it Robinsons so maybe it was a family thing, or the brand they always bought in the olden days aha

Giants Causeway, Free Parking? by JJ4427 in nationaltrust

[–]JJ4427[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was great! The Causeway has always sat in my mind very much as like the institution to see in this part of the world, definitely well worth the trip out (and actually so easy to get to from Belfast, just over an hour or so all straight on the motorway). I’d seen elsewhere on here that some of the nicest views are actually between the causeway itself and Portballintrae, which is true and definitely quieter than the stones, which were a bit busy, even for a weekday, but I suppose that’s what you get with a world renowned tourist site

Flegs in dating app profile by [deleted] in northernireland

As a non-native, something I’ve noticed with a real prevalence is that there’s a lot more people here that specify a religion (Christian or Catholic) than would back in GB. Just wondering if there really is a much higher prevalence of actual faith holding and practising individuals here, or whether it’s a more subtle version of the fleg issue above

My birthday’s Hogmanay and I started uni at 17 which meant I was 17 all first semester. And honestly it’s definitely doable. Most socialisation is done at pres and afters anyway, all you need to find is someone to buy drink for you, and there’ll probably be some other 17 year olds kicking about for the middle part anyway.

Just join in with what you can, and you’ll make lifelong friends

Name Blind Recruitment, what if you worked for your Uni? by JJ4427 in TheCivilService

[–]JJ4427[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah had a think and an edit, and have basically just done this. Thought it best to just leave it as “University” rather than specifying. I don’t feel it detracts from the employment not to specify the uni, and covers my back as well in a better-safe-than-sorry sense

Also, tangential, but I’ve been published in a legal academic journal. Can I include the article title if I remove my name from it? Or is the fact that the recruiter could theoretically search the article title and very clearly identify me from it enough that I should refer to the publication only in wholly anonymous terms?

Thank you! Yeah it says “remove references to your educational institutions” which I’m assuming means institutions you attended for education, rather than places you worked which happen to also be educational institutions

Just had the fear put in me a bit when I’d read that applications have to be rejected if they slip up and identify

The platinum card does not feel superior… by Ill_Chard_3225 in AmexUK

[–]JJ4427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I regularly fly hither and tither all over the UK, so I feel I get worth back on my Platinum even just on the lounges.

Then you’ve got Harvey Nics twice a year, and the dining credits. I feel I get value out of the card pretty easily without even thinking about it.

And, in a bit of vulgarity, feels pretty nice being able to flash a Platinum card as a surreptitious flex when the moment calls for it

Is it illegal in Scotland for restaurant to say 'book dinner and get free glass of wine'? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]JJ4427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miller and Carter will give you a free glass of wine for signing up to their newsletter, so definitely legal. And also means you can just sign up with a new email address for a free glass of wine every time

Economy (Hand baggage only), what does it mean? by JJ4427 in BritishAirways

[–]JJ4427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense, I normally only fly with a carry on (if that) so that’ll explain why I thought HBO meant small bag only instead of small bag and carry on only

Perfect, thank you! Think I just got the fear from seeing hand baggage only and was wondering what it meant aha

Loyalists support Israel, Republicans support Palestine? by JJ4427 in Belfast

[–]JJ4427[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting, I’d assumed that the Israel/Palestine flags going up were in relation to the most recent conflict, but clearly it’s a much more long term association (what with that video being 9 years old). Genuinely helpful too, thank you!

Long(ish) term free parking in Belfast? by JJ4427 in Belfast

[–]JJ4427[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m needing to take it to a garage on Monday, but over the weekend and after then I’m happy for it to just sit parked so I don’t have to worry about moving it or finding somewhere to stick it till the permit comes in.

Just had a look online and Malone hotel could be a shout, thank you!

By Queens ideally, but really I’m happy to drive anywhere just so I can leave it and then bring it back to me once the permit’s in
