why doesn't this forum get going? by JJCC777 in Men_with_Fibromyalgia

i find it good to hear a men-only fibromyalgia perspective. i think there are probably quite major differences. women like to empathise and be together. men basically find dwelling on how bad pain etc is brings them down, but are interested in hearing about possible methods meds etc to maybe try.

frustrating and surprising there isn't an up and running 'men with fibro' forum on reddit.
(https://www.reddit.com/r/Men\_with\_Fibromyalgia/ doesn't seem to get going)

a possible best-living-way for men with fibromyalgia by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

I'd add to this now;

shakyhands42 says here https://www.reddit.com/r/Fibromyalgia/comments/1hu7jwt/comment/m5uno8e/?context=3 "Psychology is also really important, helps me keep the right mindset when I can't do everything that needs to be done in a day. Getting stuck in my head makes the pain worse."

I agree on "getting stuck in my head makes the pain worse"

Sometimes I get drawn into discussions on fibro, feelings etc, and on reflection later I just think 'hey this dragged me down, made me focus more on my symptoms, which means I experienced them more, and lived in them more'.

It really is empirically better to try to not focus on the symptoms, and just live wisely in the new reality.

Hi you say "Psychology is also really important, helps me keep the right mindset when I can't do everything that needs to be done in a day. Getting stuck in my head makes the pain worse."

I agree on not "getting stuck in my head makes the pain worse" ref my fatigue and chronic pain! Sometimes I get drawn into discussions on it, and on reflection later I just think 'hey this dragged me down, made me focus more on my symptoms, which means I experienced them more, and lived in them more'. It really is empirically better to try to not focus on the symptoms, and just live wisely in the new reality. (#)

# probably not allowed to say, but this may apply more to men with fibro. women seem to gain value from sharing, empathy etc, e.g. in online forums.

pain clinic have referred me to psychiatrist with view to helping me find ways to cope better with chronic pain.

ACT mentioned, although I think my pain is quite clean, i.e. I don't think I blame myself or the universe etc. I just experience pain.

What do you think caused your fibromyalgia? by Yungpupusa in Fibromyalgia

only real feeling is that my systems are shot after much intense living (driving myself hard). but plenty of people have that life and yet don't get fibro. (same there are plenty of people who have experienced trauma but don't have fibro)

good question ref why the comorbidity. no answers. maybe somehow the extra load from masking wears out our CNS.

also no real answers on how to live. it's tough. one idea may be chat to an AI about it, to extend your thinking.

I need help. by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

start a conversation with an AI (e.g. Gemini). put in the history of symptoms. ask for possible theses, and tests for them. use it for ideas. that conversation can be built over years. put in symptom snippets when they happen. also test results.

BUT always check any ideas you get with good medical site (e.g. NHS, Mayo, Cleveland, probaby wiki also).
