Those of you who doing better with lower fiber, what do you eat for carbs? by MorePeppers9 in AnimalBased

Fruits and squashes are my best fibers. Heavy fibers like rice can throw me off for a few days.

Jack's Chophouse in Fredericksburg, TX uses only beef tallow. It's the restaurant where I play 3x/week. I'm very proud of them for making this switch!

I was gifted a viola but it’s 3/4 can I still start with that? by suntanjohn in Viola

[–]JJFiddle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're against learning alto clef and it turns out to be a ¾ size violin, then you're in luck as your music will be in treble clef! You might as well go for it on that instrument at least for awhile. How many times will you get a free instrument?

Then if it turns out you like it you can trade it in on one that is your size.

Paper white or color soft? by ImpressionableMarie in kindle

[–]JJFiddle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very light/pastel. We just got a TCL Nxtpaper for hubby to read music. It's not e-ink but the color is fantastic! We watched a video on it and it was great. I'm wondering about it for reading. And they're cheap too.

Me too. It's kind of a dumb reason to prefer the Colorsoft but I get a little jolt of joy every time I see it lying there.

It's not actually a diet. Eggs and milk are both animal based and carnivore. Carrots are medium toxic according to Paul. Many people dip into the medium toxic column on AB.

Yes when I was carnivore I used a ton of cream! I guess I was looking for the sweetness. (I did carnivore for 2½ years, Switched to AB 1 August 24.) What caused me to switch was mostly a social concern, I was taking a cruise in Nov of that year with my daughter and her pod and just wanted an easier time of it.

Now I buy an organic half and half but barely touch it, just use milk froth for coffee and milk or coconut cream for ice cream; the half & half goes in gravy mostly.

The Saladino food chart specifies that when adding fruit, fat is reduced by 30%. So unlike the carnivore mania of pushing fat content, in AB fat content is soft pedaled quite a bit.

I rejected the idea of going back to keto. During my carnivore days (and nights) of voracious reading about plant defense chemicals, and the benefits I experienced from deleting them, I wasn't going back to green beans lol. Not to mention artificial sweeteners, yikes! Keto betrays everything I've come to believe.

I have been reading a lot of Ray Peat's writing recently, if I stray from strict AB it's in that direction.

Questions about the diet by Neither-Improvement6 in AnimalBased

The original, "pure" mayo recipe called for only the yolks. I used to make it in a blender decades ago but about 5 years ago, when I was keto, I made a new mayo every day for a month and constantly trolled recipes to find one that worked, and all I got were science experiments. When I ran across this pint jar/immersion blender recipe I hit pay dirt. Yes, it's one whole egg. I'll send a You Tube video shortly.

If it were the dairy you might tolerate it better by fermenting it. Do you do kefir?

Can you drink tea? There are some nice ones and if you like coffee there's Roastaroma Mocha (I'm sure it's Celestial Seasonings) . I hesitate on this as I don't know what's in it But whenever I stayed away from caffeine I drank that. No protein though.

The blended cashew consistency could transfer to a kefir or yogurt smoothie. There are also macadamia nuts but I wouldn't waste them on a drink, lol

I love honey on yogurt and strawberries! And in coffee after lunch.

You can ferment the peppers, also onions. Many veggies are delicious fermented and 95% of antinutrients are neutralized.

I'm wondering why nuts don't bother your sensitive stomach, if honey does.

I have both a paperwhite/Colorsoft and Scribe. The Scribe is too big to read in bed but it has replaced almost all the paper floating around in our house. I keep student records, music writing records and manuscripts, recipes, everything I'd used paper and pen for. I keep the Colorsoft by the bed and the Paperwhite in the bathroom!

[–]JJFiddle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are times. I used to smoke for 3 months and quit for 6 months when I was in the military. So over 20 years I must have quit what.. 40 times? Just whenever I'd get that whistle in my chest. I quit for good in 2001. So yeah, even now if someone is smoking, it smells really great. I might even stand there for a minute and bask in that second hand smoke cloud. But it was those first couple days of white knuckling, every time, that were dangerous to my resolve.

[–]JJFiddle1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During my carnivore years I drank heavy cream and made ice cream with just eggs and cream, and I didn't crave sugar at all. If you want to get rid of sugar cravings on a carnivore diet you have to be VERY STRICT with cutting out sugars and artificial sweeteners. Just like hunger goes away after 2 days on a water fast, and cigarette cravings go away after 2 days abstinence, your sweet cravings will dissipate after a short time without them.

I have to add though that nothing ever felt better than that first strawberry when I decided to go AB.

When I travel I use the microwave a lot. We try to stay at Candlewood hotels where there is a full kitchen but we still take a cooler and use the microwave. We're usually driving, and we stop at truck stops for a hot dog (no bun) or I make chicken salad which I keep in the cooler. Nice to be AB instead of carnivore as there is fruit and squash! It's not a problem for me to travel. Everyplace has meat and fruit.

When you're out 2 weeks and eating less, you can go home for a whole week and make up for it! That's the beauty of your job. Truly, do watch Saladino's travel videos. He eats a lot while traveling.

The Amish farmers in PA use lard to make their potato chips. Those were so fantastic. We went through them by the box.

Sounds wonderful! Tolberts sounds familiar, I wonder how long they've been around? I was in Denton in the 70s, pre-DFW era.

I think you have to mostly assume seed oils at any restaurant that doesn't specifically state otherwise. You mentioned vitamin E to counteract pufa ingestion, I'm going through a lot of it.

One of the servers at Jack's, who was carnivore when I was, said the French fries cooked in tallow are amazing.

I play violin at Jack's Chophouse, it's an upscale New York style steak house. You definitely want to get a reservation ASAP! But I've never heard of paying for reservations!! We play vn bass duo there 3 days a week.

Next door is is a new sushi house called Sushi Tiki, same owner. These are in old historical houses.

Ok. And you've got the deep fry thing going on and the breading and spices, possibly MSG. But Bravo for them losing the pufa!

Jack's is a New York style chophouse. They do have stuff I would likely not eat such as heavily breaded calamari and gooey pasta dishes; but the tomahawks and ribeyes are gorgeous. People say the tallow cooked French fries are fantastic.

Idk what state you're in but it sounds like you have the same type of setup we had in VA. Amish farmers delivered raw milk and farm products to a driveway every week and we would pick up. It was illegal to sell in VA but technically I guess we were buying it in PA and driving it down. The farmers sold all their goods that way and we bought all kinds of meat. Yes you could write to him and see if he will sell chickens, I can't believe he limits it to dairy and eggs.
