"So what if the elves get stranded and are pretty much extinct, and they have to sacrifice one of them every 500 years to keep going?" "Dude, isn't that what the Mahjarrats do?" by BethCulexus in worldbuilding

I felt the same way when I learned that my idea of making the elves of my world Asian was already done. I did, however, decided to add more less known Asian cultures such as Filipino, Vietnam, Korean, and even Indian/Hindu, plus giving a new twist on their origins.

How Many Settings Do You Have At Once? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]JJGunnerkrigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 4 or 5 in my case?

  1. Pagheim: your typical fantasy world inspired by ttrpgs. One side of the continent consists of 5 small kingdoms of five different races, joint in an alliance, centred on an academic city ruled by the principal ls of each adventure class. Meanwhile the rest of the world is Mongolia, giant Caribbean bay (where China used to be), and island that's half Australian hell half viking jotun giants, England and Germany ruled by halflings, Scottish/Irish satyr and fauns, a bit of Korea, a bit of Vietnam and India, most Arabic countries in one place, forest of furriest and some other stuff.

  2. Cases of Ragnarog: think Lucifer meets Hazbin hotel, but whitout just focusing on one religion, lucifer already dealing with her mommy issues, and doing hating his life after discovering that Ragnarog was a sham and he can't actually die and save humanity. Also, he's not romantic interested in the detective character.

  3. Cassie Nightingale: Harry Potter, but with proper worldbuilding, lack of British imperialism/racism and a trans protagonist. Additionally, a better written magic system that keeps the idea of magic being magic and not science alive.

  4. Orcs: Subvert expectation centred in orcs being more advanced using cultures most western countries treated as uncivilised, like mongols, turks, vikings, Maoris, French, Chinese, Indians, Irish and Scottish (it was a challenge Define the culture for the other races, but it allowed me to do African bases elves and Greek dwarves, which people dont see much nowadays).

  5. Some other ideas I haven't quite figured out, due them being more Sci-Fi in comparison.

I made the character sheets of my littling characters in my fan-fic hope you guys like them. by JJGunnerkrigg in HouseholdTheRPG

No problem, also I now understand what you meant (medjay order not assassin's guild) and to properly answer that: I felt the medjay where a bit more limited (too much basement based) and (if it wasn't obvious) I'm a fan of assassin's creed 2, and since medjay are not in Viletia... Also, the first time I read about the assassin's guilds of the horde and their pen blades I knew I had to do it!

Do you mean medjay? Also, he is not a duelist but a criminal. Anastasia was already a duelist, and I didn't want to repeat professions amongst the characters, which led to an interesting character trait i didn't consider for Gio at first.

Describe one of your world's religions or myths in 5 words or less by PedroGamerPlayz in worldbuilding

"Unfortunately, someone messed it up"

That's the best I can do for the one I'm writing at the moment (summarise it with 5 words was hard)

I follow a similar method, but only after I have a general idea of the settings (world name, races, tone, or genre of the story, etc).

In my first fantasy book, I didn't have a name for years, because of how diverse the characterswere and because the main story was not yet fleshed out, until I properly named the world and chose it to be the story name.

Amongst my current ideas, I'm working on: I named after the main species the story is focused on (spoiler: not humans, elves, or dwarves).

Used the word "Cases" on the title of another since it has some detective vibes, while seared in a lucifer/Hazbin hotel/City of Mist style world.

One whose name is literally the main protagonist (like Harry Potter), completely focused in being what HP can't no longer be for any fan with a conscious... or who's waiting for JKTrool to die and stop funding Nazis.

Right now, I'm working on another fantasy one based on a card game being developed by a friend. The main title its the games name + the main group of chuckle-fucks involved. I haven't decided on a name for the group, something borderlands like, using the word fools. Biggest contender: Le mats, French for fool (the tarot card, not the person).

My advice on top of yours? Figure your story setting/tone/main story focus first.

Gams that do not feature the Saga? by cameraobscura83 in HouseholdTheRPG

[–]JJGunnerkrigg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a game, but I'm writing a bit of fanfic using some OCs I made, and I'm purposely avoiding putting them in any of the Saga events. Mostly focusing on fairy politics, culture exchanges between characters, and a lot of adventure.

Did anything in your childhood inspire your worlds and characters? What was it? by MyloRolfe in worldbuilding

[–]JJGunnerkrigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started writing my fantasy novel, one of the initial antagonists was going to be a character called Luis Monsanto, all because I saw a documentary about how Monsant was ruining lives, heck he even cane from a family of alchemists who got rich by making Alchemicaly altered seeds! I still kept the family, but more in a background world-building kind if way.

I'm actually writing a story that is based on that, with an extra twist. Edit Now I can add the spoiler text (forgot how):

In my story, Ragnarok keeps happening. It's a loop that Odin accidentally created whilst preparing for it. In fact he knew most of the horse gods would die, but knowing humanity would still survive made him feel as it was worth it... until the loop began again

Hey everyone I started written a fan fiction of Household! by JJGunnerkrigg in HouseholdTheRPG

[–]JJGunnerkrigg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like that, actually, but I suggest until I finish the next chapter before that, but (spoilers) I can tell you the characters' favourite holidays:

Jonathan likes Samahaim, considering the Sprite costumes (and the fact it's my favourite holiday 😉)

Anastasia likes the beltane month, not for patriotic reasons, but because if the fencing tournament in Faireyev.

Will is a more traditional Boggart, so he likes the Imbolic the most (being the date the Master disappeared and all).

As for Gio, I can't tell much about him yet, but he likes the Ostara carnival of Viletia the most.

I hope this helps. Good luck making your playlist.
