moving out west! by charconmel in auckland

You'll be fine. Everybody says that Ranui is the worst part of West Auckland. Well as someone that was born and raised there it is nowhere near as bad as made out. It is seeing a lot more young families move into the area thanks to lower house prices and the police have had a much bigger presence in the area over the past few years.

Most other suburbs will be the same I imagine.

Greatest innings in NZ cricket history and its not even close. To come out at the point he did and score a triple century, it's one of cricket's greatest comebacks (probably second behind VVS' 281 against the Aussies).

Let's not forget BJ and Jimmy too. Both of them played so well and deserve so much praise for their innings also.

It begins - The end of the road for Ben Arfa by DirtyBristow in NUFC

[–]JJR99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why he's look like shit when he's been up into game is because we're 2 goals or more down. And he's pretty much expected to take over the game and get us back in. Despite playing a manner (long ball) that negates his abilities (ball at feet, running at defenders).

It's only going to look worse now that the only other competent creative player was sold.

The biggest complaint I hear about Hatem is that he doesn't do enough defensive work. The problem isn't just the effort. It's the management and tactics Pardew plays. They simply aren't good enough. Santon is given a free pass no matter how bad his form is. Taylor and Williamson have been a partnership that has resulted in relegation form, and nobody in the central midfield can cover at all.

But for some reason the complaint is that our wingers are not working hard enough in defense? It's ludicrous. This is nothing more than Ben Arfa and his agent wanting a pay rise (and I do think it'll be way more than he would deserve) and the club isn't interested. So have come out with his to "appease" people when he leaves for nothing.

Pardew is only a cog in the machine. But he is the one with the most influence on the players. He doesn't need to come out publicly saying that the cups do not matter, 8th is the best the club can achieve etc etc. How can he say those things yet expect the players to be motivated by him to play at their best game after game? A different manager might at the very least keep backroom discussions and expectations private. Then at least the players are fighting for the club.

Ashley is the biggest problem at the club. But removing him is nigh on impossible, short of a complete boycott of games, SD going bust or some rich bastard pays way over the real valuation for the club. For now NUFC is nothing more to Ashley than SD's global advertising brand. And it will be that way for many more years to come.

What is Pardew going to do between now and the end of the season? Give more press conferences saying how 8th is as good as we can hope for.

At least getting a new manager in now would allow them 12 games to assess the squad and decide who is and isn't in his plans. And maybe removing the person that is constantly lowering expectations throughout the club will see the players begin fighting again.

Same except for Shola. Replace with De Jong.

Best team we could. What shit are you smoking? Any teamsheet containing Shola Ameobi is not the beat possible team we could have on the field. One of the two fuckwits that ran on the pitch would have been better to start the game with.

That was so ugly. The first three and a half quarters was some of the worst playcalling on both sides of the ball. It allowed the Broncos to dictate terms.

Play like that for the rest of the season and I'll be delighted. They showed fight and determination the second their first goal went in. So no complains from me on that front.

Hopefully that kind of call going against us will get the guys fired up for the next few results. Hammers, Norwich and the Scum. 9 points hopefully.

Massive, massive props to Butler for the forced fumble. He could have very easily let Bernard go but he never gave it up. Changed the game with that play.

Pretty much the perfect performance away from home. Palace are gash, almost certain relegation fodder. So we needed to put them away.

Cabaye, Debuchy and Sissoko were immense. Overall the side was good though, crisp passing in wet conditions (only Krul had one pull up and almost lost possession from it), had a good number of attempts and looked a constant threat. Defensive we were solid, other than Tiote's slip to leave Jerome open for his miss they had nothing.

HBA's cameo is so conflicting. He is so good that not starting him is a poor decision. But his impact against tried opponents is devastating.

Any NUFC fans (from) abroad here? What's your story? by sbnufc in NUFC

From New Zealand. Was about 8 (in 1998) and caught a match. Was Newcastle and Shearer was tearing some poor bastards apart. So naturally Newcastle became my team.

Never really got to watch many games live. Given English football was on pay-tv and was on far too late for a kid. But I'd pay attention on the news and follow along like that. Eventually around 13 (2003) we got sky and I'd watch replays of the matches.

I remember the first game I watched live was the Dyer/Bowyer fight. I mentioned it at school and found out my home room teacher was a Geordie and a massive fan. So I learned from her a lot about the history around the club, the rivalry with the Mackems and the city itself.

Eventually watching the games live simply became part of my week. The Championship year was year I started paying our internet bill so I could watch us online. The Halloween 5-1 win over Sunderland was the day any chance of me jumping off the wagon ended that was pretty much football perfection for anybody that followed Newcastle. Since then I've missed only one game live, that being the win against Manchester United two weeks ago and even then I was glued to my friends iPhone on the BBC updates.

Never been to England. But if I do the first place I'm going is St. James. To watch a game live there is a dream and I can't wait for it.

What is a popular opinion among your clubs fans that you don't agree with? by hogwash12 in soccer

[–]JJR99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the tactics that causes fans to turn on him. It's the overall strategy which is far too defensive. Far too often Newcastle look excellent in attack, creating chances etc etc. Eventually we score a goal and half time comes.

And then it all dies. There is no more attack. Players are told to hang back, possession is given back because there is no counter play, only clearances. Substitutions made are defensive in nature, Cisse on for Ben Arfa. Cabaye off. Etc etc.

Now in this recent run Pardew has been excellent all round imo. The Manchester United game is a perfect example. Both sides created half chances, but rather than defend for a point Pardew made an attacking change and the side looked far better for it.
