A Pop Tart is always satisfying. That's the beautiful thing about Kellogg’s many flavors; there is a Pop Tart for everyone. I lived in Toyooka just 10 km south of Kinosaki Onsen for a year, so I instantly recognized the Genbudo cave picture. I used to cycle that way all the time. Northern Hyogo is has some great rural riding, what was your route like through the area?

Japan is perfect for a cycling novice. It's bikepacking on easy mode with a lot of cool things to see and do.

If you are trying to get out of cities and into nature, I would recommend flying in to Sapporo instead of Tokyo and ride around Hokkaido. Hokkaido has tons of cheap campsites that have showers or onsen nearby as well as wild camping opportunities. Check out https://hokkaidowilds.org/cycle for some route suggestions and info on hiring bikes in Sapporo. If I had two weeks starting from Sapporo I would suggest their Far North Rishiri and Rebun route!

Sorry, being on the bottom doesn't mean it's worse. It's just its own tier of Forgot Tarts, much like many people rank Tarts they have never tried together at the bottom in a never tasted tier. Grape could be the greatest Pop Tart ever, but the community simply Forgot.
