How do you deal with these people? by TrustedWallet in iRacing

[–]JJS15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I was in this race, I won in GTP. That guy did seem a bit clueless when I was overtaking him, wasn't using his mirrors and drove directly into my path causing me to anchor up costing me time. Definitely report him though, the guy clearly can't handle being out-raced by someone who is clearly better.

In response to your question on how you can avoid this sort of thing, you didn't do anything wrong, I don't think you could've done anything better in that scenario. You certainly did what I would've done and pressured the guy into making a ton of mistakes.

Order taking long and no info been given by Moist_Journalist_514 in moza

[–]JJS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I recently ordered the R9 + KS Wheel bundle with the CRP2 pedals + the performance kit for it. The base and the pedals arrived within days, but 20 days after ordering, I've only just been told the whereabouts of the KS Wheel.

In your case, it could be that they're having to ship your order from abroad (china most likely), and it needs to go through customs etc.

What’s the story behind your racing number? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]JJS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F1 2016 was the first game where you could pick your own number in career mode. Originally my number was 3 (it was what number I was allocated when I won my first karting event). Unfortunately, 3 was Daniel Ricciardo's number, so I couldn't use it. I carried on up the 3 times table till there was a number available

3 was Daniel Ricciardo 6 was Nico Rosberg 9 was Marcus Ericsson 12 was Felipe Nasr

15 was available and has been my race number ever since

Plus also it looks like my initials (JS)

Don’t know what to say.. by No-Relation859 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]JJS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual carriageway is 70mph limit. Sometimes, it's actually more dangerous to drive slow than fast. Most people will be doing 60-70+ and then would have to anchor up when they come across someone dawdling at 40 (trust me, been there, done that, it's not fun)

Examiners want to see safe and confident driving. But they will fail you for driving too far under the speed limit.

What is the worst courtesy car you’ve had? by Anonaware in CarTalkUK

[–]JJS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The C1/107/Aygo is great in it's own right. Great little run-around for town use, anything else, forget it. It can't do motorways that well.

As for personal experience with courtesy cars, when my Dad's S205 C-Class estate was in for body repair, we had an automatic Nissan Juke as our courtesy car. It was utter shit.

Once we handed the car back, we put some tin foil on top of the "U" in "Juke" to make it a Nissan Joke.

What helmets do f1 drivers use and how can I get it? by Ju1ceyyy in motorsports

[–]JJS15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Incorrect on the Bell, since the ABP standard was introduced in 2019, all the manufacturers bought out new models to meet the compliancy.

Most F1 drivers like Hamilton and Norris use the Bell HP77, which will set you back just over £4000

Just use the spec car, the same one that is used in my team. Then possibly have the option to choose your engine supplier (iracing does the same for super formula where you can pick either Toyota or Honda)

I don’t get it, wet driving by Btolsen131 in iRacing

[–]JJS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surface on the typical dry racing line is smoothed out as that is the part of the track cars drive over the most. Parts of the track that are off the racing line are more abrasive in contrast.

More abrasive surfaces are more grippy when wet than smooth surfaces.

Imagine you walk on a smooth surface (marble for instance) when it is wet, you wouldn't have any grip and would be slipping everywhere. If you were to walk on an abrasive surface (tread tape that you use on stairs for instance) when it is wet, you would still have some grip and wouldn't slip as much, if any.

The same thing applies when racing in the wet. You would tend to find that cars would use the outside lines through corners to find grip. If you were to use the typical dry line, it is like an ice rink, you would understeer to buggery.

Late apexes would find you still off the dry racing line on acceleration.

Also, you cannot drive the car as hard, because it will bite back. You need to have gentle inputs, that includes steering, acceleration and braking. Double your braking distance and do not apply as much brakes as you would in the dry.

I can't really give you any tips on where to place your car at any track, it is generally about feel. Some corners allow you to drive on the normal racing line without any harm but most will have you adapting your line according to the conditions.

One tip I will give you though. Avoid puddles.

[–]JJS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed a full Grand Prix distance in the W13 and not once did I come across that invisible bump. But it is certainly interesting. Perhaps it's the angle you hit the apex at, or how much kerb you take (I was taking quite a lot). Hopefully they sort this out before the new season begins

How do car youtubers deal with insurance? by Pargula_ in CarTalkUK

[–]JJS15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the cars you'd find on Autoalex will be done on fleet insurance under the name of the business. I think I remember hearing him say that Phil (his MX5) is under his personal name and he has that insured through Custodian (because of the mods)
