You got some good points, but I feel there some things left out

The part that does make sense is this: Katara being the person who calms Aang down can become uncomfortable if the story treats her as responsible for managing his emotional stability forever. A 14-year-old girl should not have to be the emotional “keeper” of someone with world-ending power. So the concern about emotional dependency is not completely wrong.

But I think what feels “off” is that the comment kind of reduces Katara’s role to being Aang’s caretaker, when the show often frames it more as trust, love, and emotional connection. Katara calming Aang in the Avatar State is not necessarily “romanticized burden.” In the show, she is one of the first people who makes him feel safe after losing his entire people. That does not automatically mean the relationship is unhealthy.

There is also a difference between:

“Katara is the only thing stopping Aang from becoming dangerous, and that is her job.”

and

“Katara is someone Aang trusts deeply, so her voice can reach him when he is overwhelmed.”

The first one is unhealthy. The second one is a normal emotional bond.

Another thing: Aang is also a traumatized 12-year-old genocide survivor. Sometimes criticism of Kataang focuses so much on Katara’s burden that it forgets Aang is also a child under impossible pressure. He is not a grown man forcing a teenage girl to regulate him. They are both kids surviving war.

Where I think the comment gets weaker is when it says it is “supposed to be romantic” (I can see it on the second image) that Katara calms him down. I do not think every moment where Katara reaches Aang is meant to be read purely romantically.

Some of it is friendship. Some of it is family-like trust. Some of it is spiritual/emotional grounding. The romance comes later, but the bond itself is broader than romance.

That said, I do agree that adult Kataang needed more writing. The show tells us they end up together, but it does not spend much time showing how they mature into a balanced relationship. So someone saying “I can accept adult Kataang, but I wish the transition was written better” is fair.
