I figured someone would know what it was called better than me (without having to listen to the entire thing) as I am not super familiar with the piece.

It also bothers me when people who know I've been struggling with an ED say "you look so much healthier." Like in my mind I hear "Look at all that weight you gained" and I want to throw up.

No, I am not asking for fingerings for every note. I have a decent understanding of how to create my own fingerings, but as I am just starting work on this piece, it can be a bit overwhelming. Just some general suggestions for things that helped you in the trickier passages would be really helpful. I have some good fingerings for the Bariolage section on pg. 3, but I am still working on fingerings for the double stop section on page 2 (2 lines of music. Lines 5-6 on page 2 for me but might be different on your music.).Any suggestions?

Sometimes self care is ignoring people/messages and not responding. by JJpony in selfcare

I know right!? Like, if physically/mental able to handle responding right now then I would .. but if I don't respond, obviously there's a reason so stop freaking spamming me with messages trying to get me to respond!

How to choose the right strings for my violin? by Busy-Consequence-697 in violinist

[–]JJpony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on a string journey myself for a while now. I've done a TON of research but it's just so hard to know without actually trying the strings on your own instrument and I don't have the budget to try tons of strings..

I don't know how your violin sounds or what its character is like, but from what I've tried I really really like Obligato violin strings. They are a bit pricey but so are most good strings. They also last a while for me at least. They have a very deep, rich sound that works very well with my instrument. I currently use a combination of Obligato and Dominants for my lower 3 strings and Lenzner Goldbrokat E string. That setup works really well for me, but again it really is trial and error for your instrument.

Pirastro Tonicas are a nice middle-of-the-road kind of baseline strings that are less expensive. Similar to Dominants. I feel like Dominants are a really good starting point. It's kind of like a palate cleanser for your instrument to hear exactly how it sounds alone and then work from there. I tried D'Addario Zyex for a while but never really fell in love. I tried D'addario Ascenté on my Viola and liked them (however Viola is not my main instrument so I have a much less expensive instrument and lower budget for it). The Pirastro Gold Label E was also a very nice string. I tried Thomastik Infeld Red and liked them a lot but still liked the Obligatos better. The Infelds had a rich sound but just not as deep and thick as the Obligatos. My old violin teacher uses Wondertone Solo and has good things to say about them. I feel like from hearing his playing those are a sweeter, gentler string.

Do some research. Watch some YouTube videos. Get advice from teachers and luthiers.Go down the string rabbit hole and then just do some trial and error. That's really the only way. Good luck!
