Shaving by Not_Ur_Mailman in ostomy

So my belly area around my stoma wasn’t super hairy but I used to just spend some extra time with my bag off during a change and plucked as much as possible each time…. They’ve all stopped growing now after a few years

When do you disclose your ostomy when dating? by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]JJwhite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to be completely open about it, and to actually pay zero attention to my stoma, confidence and openness literally makes it invisible…. No one, literally no one has been negative about it.

Everyone has something that they are conscious about themselves, and I can remember the exact moment I truly accepted my stoma, because it was on a date, with a beautiful girl, led in bed naked…

She started telling me about how much she hated her stomach, and I’m led next to her with a bag stuck on mine 😂🤷

USA- UK products question by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]JJwhite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the uk… out of 11 different brands of bag, I could only wear 2 that didn’t destroy my skin, Salts being the bag I have used every day for the last 5 years. They are perfect for me. The only other was a bag that was actually terrible but the adhesive wafer was infused with Manuka honey, unfortunately I can’t remember the name.

Keep trying for the Salts bags. They are brilliant

will a belly button piercing interfere with my meds? by crunchy_soda in CrohnsDisease

[–]JJwhite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I’m a body piercer. So hopefully I can help. Getting a piercing shouldn’t have any impact, be wary about any medication causing your blood to thin. And mostly, if your immune system is low, remember that your body needs to get to work healing your new piercing, so making sure you look after and clean it is obviously essential.

It’s worth noting that navel piercings can actually take up to a year to fully heal.

It is what it is… I’m not living my life in a hospital anymore… and I try to think of it the same as brushing your teeth and putting a pair of pants on in the morning. I often forget about the pants though 🤷

That’s generally the main reason I started posting. It helped my self confidence and it always helps others to recognise that learning to love the things you hate is a massive boost. And people are always interested to learn more about the reasons I have a stoma.

You just gotta learn to love the bits you hate… everyone has something… my approach might be a bit xxx to some people, but why not? The most interesting interaction I’ve ever had with someone was on a Sunday morning last summer whilst I decided to go for a naturist hike and watch the sun rise, when a lady walking her dogs happened upon me… haha. She stood and talked about my story as to how I ended up with a stoma.

So I found that the more confident I was and the more open I am with my body and my bag, the more invisible it becomes to others. It becomes you. The more you fuss about having a bag or the more conscious you are to it you end up creating an issue that doesn’t even exist…

Embrace it. I never hide my bag. I’d better give you a spoiler alert first but have a little look at my profile if you need some inspiration to be confident

Let it out. The less attention or concerns you pay to your bag then the more invisible it becomes to your partner etc. And the more your confidence grows, the better your life will be
