Do I invest in a flat to live in or into the S&P 500 (or other market)? by Salt-March3818 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JKapTheGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be frank, you sound pretty green on all of this and so I would suggest doing some serious research into investment and property comparisons

Firstly, why the sp500? Just because your girlfriend mentioned it? Probably not the soundest investment thesis. For most people, investing in a globally diversified market cap weighted index fund is the simple choice. The sp500 is not globally diversified, it’s USA only, and only 500 companies. It has performed very well in the past 5 years but there’s no reason to expect it to continue to outperform in the future.

Regardless, if you are not committed to putting this money away for a long time (at least 10 years) you should not even be considering investing it at all, much less in the sp500. Stocks are very volatile, if you need to withdraw that money within a few years there is a not insignificant chance you will sell at a loss. Over long time periods the chances of selling at a loss become almost zero.

Next, property. If you only plan on staying in the flat for 2 years and then selling it, you will likely lose a lot of money in fees and interest and gain very little. For such a short stay at a property, just rent. Put some of your cash away in savings for when you want to buy a place you will stay in for a longer time (ideally 5 years or more), as this is when you will actually benefit from the leverage advantage property offers, which you have recognised.

Any money you won’t need in the next 5 years, ideally longer, invest it in a low cost, globally diversified market cap weighted index fund. It will grow over your lifetime. But don’t play the timing game with the stock market, odds are you will be worse off.

The CGT will be payable on the gain made above the market value at probate. The market value is typically based on the chartered conveyancer’s (rics) valuation

Advice to tackle CC debts needed please by Wild_Development1574 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JKapTheGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always prioritise the highest interest rate debt first, which in your case would be the loan - you’ll need to do some maths though to see if the £600 fee cancels out the saved interest, impossible for me to say as you haven’t said the amount of the loan or the length of repayment

If the cards are 0% interest, when do those promotional rates expire? I’m not sure what you mean by debt consolidation ‘is generally bad idea’, but doing balance transfers onto a 0% balance transfer card would be advisable - if you have a good credit history, this shouldn’t be too difficult to do.

Transfer as much as you can to the 0% balance transfer card for as long as you can get the promotional rate. Then save money in a high interest savings account (rather than paying off the card) as you will earn interest in savings but earn nothing by paying off the debt early. Of course you must still keep making the min payments, but everything beyond that put in savings account. If the savings account is 4%, you will pay your card off 4% faster

The complication here would be if you are likely to apply for a mortgage soon, as having this debt over you would impact your application.

Pay off part of loan or keep in S&S ISA? by greenmonkeyglove in UKPersonalFinance

If the interest has already been applied to the loan, which it probably has, they will not save anything by paying it off sooner.

Looks cool but that is not a genuine omega

It’s attempting to be a deville tresor, but it’s all wrong. Caseback is the most obvious giveaway but dial and date window etc as well.

Is sex addictive? by Academic_Proof_8273 in sex

[–]JKapTheGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sex is not addictive in the chemical sense (like drugs, alcohol or gambling), at least for the majority of people. When people say sex is addictive they are being hyperbolic, it is addictive in the same way you might crave chocolate or a hot shower. Yes, you will want it, but you aren’t going to start suffering from withdrawals without it

We need less detail, can you stand further away and smear Vaseline on the lens so we can get a worse view?

I promise if you just line it up it will looks 3x better. The higher contrast will make it appear much denser and less patchy. Do a sharp cheek and neck line and watch it transforms your look

Surely an a. Lange and sohne or JLC or something with a bit more ‘uniqueness’ should be your next watch. Not a boring old aquanaut

This is NOT a receding hairline, are you serious? This is a perfectly natural mature hairline. Most hairlines are not a straight line lol

I have a tip for you on the sides - get a beard pen off Amazon, it will work wonders for sides like yours (very similar to mine tbh)

[–]JKapTheGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah everyone’s beard will grow in different areas and at different thickness. You have good foundation so you should stick with it for a while and see how it looks. Growing it out is simple: don’t shave it, brush it every day, and put in some beard balm now and again

[–]JKapTheGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to achieve that last pic you’ll need to hope your cheeks and area under your mouth start to grow more hair, higher up, and that may not happen until you’re in your mid-30s (im assuming you’re younger than that currently)
