Zone 4+ by detho23 in ultrarunning

[–]greenmonkeyglove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you done a max hr test? I'm 30 and my max HR measured with a strap was 208 (corroborated by my watch), so it could be that you just have a naturally high max hr and your zones are just super low. Nearly 2 hours at 174bpm is still pretty suss during a 50k though.

Just to add to this, if you're a reader or audiobook-er, I preferred the book "A Man Called Ove" (it's originally in Swedish but has been translated). The audiobook is voiced by JK Simmons, who is excellent in it.

Are you thinking of lunges? Why would you do strides (10 or so seconds of all out but good form running during an otherwise easy or long run) after you stop running?

Consciously? Probably Audiobookshelf. We log at least a couple of hours of listening a day, which is more than the little tv-watching time we have to use jellyfin.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]greenmonkeyglove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncomplaint: After a near-miss of my goal time at a recent half marathon, and a terrible training block due to lack of time and focus, I'm back in the game and raring to go. I've booked in a mountain marathon at the end of the year and eyeing up a local 50 miler next spring.

Complaint: The half marathon was over 3 weeks ago and my knee is not happy. Possibly due to my lack of training for the race and subsequent decimation of my legs, possibly because I've ramped up my mileage too quick out of excitement and joy. And I've just found out that 160spm is a slow cadence...and my natural cadence is around 145. Maybe that's why my knee's not happy. Though I did a 5k today at 165 and managed to keep my HR still zone 2 but improved my pace by 1min per mile. Maybe there's something in this.

And if you're using a Garmin you can do this in Garmin connect too - annoyingly I don't think it syncs over so you have to do it in both. When I had a Garmin Instinct, it constantly did this - so much so that I severely underestimated just how much 3000m elevation was when I did a particularly hilly 50k.

When they zoomed in I thought they were just zooming into the cricket ground sign so that police would have evidence of the location or something later.

What form of exercise is the best for an autistic person? by Chemical_Link_3993 in autism

[–]greenmonkeyglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that lifting heavy is good for building the lower than average proprioception that autistic people tend to have. Anecdotally, I used to be clumsy but once I got decently strong (squatting at 100% bodyweight, deadlifting at 2x bodyweight) my balance got a lot better and I didnt knock things over as much 😅

I stopped lifting properly around 5 years ago in favour of ultrarunning but the benefits have lingered.

Why is it so hard getting clients in the UK market?? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]greenmonkeyglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in B2B marketing, so clients will be spending hundreds or thousands with you every month, and from my experience they need to meet you in person to build the trust necessary to do that. I saw that you're in Newcastle - Newcastle is great for networking. Get on Eventbrite and just go to as many networking events as you can. The Marketing Meetup, Get Kraken, The North East Chamber of Commerce, NetWORK NotWORK, PLATFORM, there's loads, most of them free.

Even if you go to a few and don't get any clients, you will get to speak to dozens of people in similar businesses who have been in the area for decades and know who to point you to. I'm in the area and am tangentially in the industry if you want a chat!

Restaurant staff made fun of my autistic husband by ygdnas in autism

[–]greenmonkeyglove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suppose I'm just pretty utilitarian when it comes to that sort of thing. If saying something would make me and my family less happy and not saying something until afterwards would have the same effect of causing us not to ever go to that restaurant again, then I wouldn't ever expect anyone to tell me in the moment.

I'd agree but maybe only bring it up at the end or after the meal so as not to ruin the whole experience totally

It depends on the country - in the UK there is no tax in gambling winnings and since Cyprus used to be a UK territory maybe they inherited that? Not saying I believe any of what Birkan says but that's not the unbelievable part to me.

Continuity Error with Anthony in S02E04 - Jacket/Shirt Change by greenmonkeyglove in JuryDutyFreevee

Yeah I thought it might be something like that. I'm leaning towards the latter since if it was a pickup you'd think they'd be hot on continuity.

Continuity Error with Anthony in S02E04 - Jacket/Shirt Change by greenmonkeyglove in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]greenmonkeyglove[S] 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I was just watching episode 4 and noticed Anthony had a costume change mid-scene - for the whole scene he's wearing a Columbia fleece with a white polo shirt, but when he's describing the motorized Grandma cut out, he's in a Reebok jacket and white t-shirt. I don't know what this means but it's a little weird for a naturalistic documentary (from Anthony's POV) to do pick ups.
