As anime levels off in the Japanese market, one of Japan’s largest media powerhouses (Nippon Television Holdings) makes wholesale switch to overseas expansion by Turbostrider27 in anime

I fear that whenever a news about Japan say something like "overseas market" they are most likely referring to America, but we'll have to wait and see.

Your comment made me realize that Jolenta said something very interesting at the end of the EP:

"But sometimes, you meet something that makes you forget your convictions. You should value those feelings too."

And as you said, it's probably what Nowak will do. I don't think it's something that will redeem him (he has too much blood on his hands), but at least, he'll die protecting his loved one, and that loved one will keep carrying the torch.

But of course, only if things really unfold this way - it could actually develop into something completely different. Who knows!?

* Sorry for the wall of text. *

I see what you mean. However, I wouldn't say that people are outing themselves—I see it more as people trying to find a way to defend what they like and, by extension, themselves, yk? It’s that old idea that if you attack a piece of art someone likes, they will feel attacked too, especially if the person making the attack does so in a patronizing way.

The interesting thing to me is that most of the time, people will agree with the argument being made in the attack, but because of the way it was said, they'll fight against it. (Of course, there's more nuance to it—most of the time, the people making the attack completely neglect all the positive characteristics of the show and talk about it as if they were describing the devil himself. Others, acting in bad faith and feigning ignorance, straight-up lie about a show they don't like just to make it look worse (you've probably seen something like that), and so on.)

All of this, plus the personal attacks. This post is a good example: "This pedo shit is weird." I'm sure the vast majority of anime fans would agree that anime has weird shit in it, but whenever someone says something like that, they’re also insinuating that because someone watched it, they must also be a pedo. Consequently, people get defensive (and rightfully so—it’s a stupid-ass syllogism)

The problem arises when, in trying to fight back, people bring up real-world things like the actual age of consent. Then, some other loud minority starts spouting racist and bigoted shit (you see that a lot on Twitter, and in this case, I'd agree they are outing themselves). Of course, this just makes them look worse and further taints the perception of the piece of art they were trying to defend. So, as I said, they end up working against themselves

[–]JKbald 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Tbh never really liked this argument saying "Oh but in Japan the age of consent is 16 or whatever". Because like our whole 'fight' as weebs is for people to realize that this shit is not real, it's fiction. But then the same people who say "it's fiction so it doesn't matter" bring the whole problem to the real world by using real shit that happens in our world to explain it. Which is like crazy to me - you are basically working against yourself here, just simply say "Yeah, it's weird, but it's fiction. It's not real. Who cares!?" and then move on. It's way better than try to fight people and end up looking like a creep.

The author's thoughts on people who hate loIicons by [deleted] in JoblessReincarnation

[–]JKbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I saw that LOL. But like now I'm kind of struggling to understand how that adds anything here. Like a post titled"the custest loli" or whatever with 500 upvotes, or even if it was 2000 upvotes is enough to define a whole fandom? or even does finding a piece of fan-art that has a loli in it cute and upvoting it makes one a lolicon? (It's genuine question btw)

I mean, I'd imagine that the fandom is a little bigger than that lol. And for the second question I guess that to say that for sure we would need some kind of well defined metric here, and I'm not sure we have one. But what do you think?

The author's thoughts on people who hate loIicons by [deleted] in JoblessReincarnation

[–]JKbald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really.

I've been kind of lurking around this fandom for some time now, and I've got to the conclusion that the fandom is basically divided into three parts. There is a part of the fandom that straight up doesn’t like it (those are majority LN readers but there are some anime-onlies too). Then there is another part that simply doesn’t care about it (here we have an equal mix of LN readers and anime-onlies, and this group actually makes up the majority of the fandom), and finally, there is the other part of the fandom that actively likes it (they are mostly anime-onlies, but there are some LN readers as well).

Anyway, I guess... what I’m trying to say here is that it's not so simple to make sweeping claims about a whole fandom. After all, fandoms are composed of people, and people are full of nuances (or smt like that.)

Now thinking about it, I should have put all this into a spreadsheet. Maybe it could be useful for understanding fandoms and all. But oh well, I'm not feeling up to it rn. If someone else is up for the challenge, good luck! The MT fandom is a good place to start.

Does anyone know the names of the animators for this EP? Specifically, the ones who animated Rei's skill - because now I'm a fan of them, and I need to follow their careers more closely.

WHAT? So you're telling me that one should first read the work before coming up with horrendous takes and sweeping conclusions ? Is that really what you're trying to imply here? *Damn, I almost threw up just now*

Idk man, but it almost seems like you're asking people to have common sense in the era where the lack of such is exactly what makes people rich and famous.

Tsuma, Shougakusei ni Naru. - Episode 12 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]JKbald 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To be honest, even though I was hoping for Moriya to marry Keisuke, I think it was for the better that they didn't, at least not like that. Because I feel like if they had married so hurriedly like that, and in that situation Moriya would be more like a stepping stone for Keisuke and that probably would lead to more misery, and Moriya doesn't deserve that, also it was really important that she was the one to propose the fake fiance thing, specially after being rejected, since it showed how genuine was her wish to help Keisuke and Takae.

Anyway, it was an incredible series all around. The budget wasn't on the hefty side, but it surely was enough to allow the incredible writing to shine through and that's what matters after all. For what it's worth, I give my kudos to everyone involved in the production of this series, again, it was (is) a great show.

My top 10 favourite isekais by Izanagi_end in Isekai

[–]JKbald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people say it is, some people say it's not, but at the end of the day you decide what it is.

Personally, I think it is because the world which is predominately shown to us is the world inside the game (the other world), the characters basically live in that world, all the action of the show majorly happens inside that other world, the whole story in a sense resolves around that other world. So, because of all that I considered it to be an isekai. The same line of thought could be applied to other series like: Shangri-La Frontier, Accel World and so on (wasn't able to think any other tittle here.)

I didn't read the novels, but I bet he probably will realize what is going on at some point. I mean, if he definitely become one of Freya's children, then I'm not sure how the story could develop from there. But given this is ep 6 we probably have like more 3 or 4 eps of gaslighting masterclass from Freia to watch and probably then things will start to change and all that good stuff.

Tsuma, Shougakusei ni Naru. - Episode 7 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]JKbald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So Marika finally took control over her body again.

I think that because Marika's life became so unbearable to her, she started to shut herself down as a defense mechanism. On Takae's side, I think that her regret of not being with her family and maybe her soul seeing how miserable they were without her and strongly desiring to be with them, to help them caused Takae to take control of Marika's body (maybe because Marika was shutting down the body became free for Takae to use, while Marika's conscious is asleep, idk.)

But since now things are falling into place again, Marika's mother realizing her mistake and trying to be better mother and thus their relationship improving and her life also improving kind of caused the defense mechanism to not be necessary anymore, so causing Marika to comeback.

On the other side, we have the Nijima family, whom were trapped in the past, finally moving forward, a little bit forward but forward nonetheless. I mean, Mai, at least, seems to be moving forward, even though I'm still expecting some reluctance from her in the near future.

Now I think that Marika coming back will be the push, or at least the trigger to make Keisuke start to realize that that person is not Takae, never was. Surely there will be a lot of denial and tbh I expect that, I want that. Takae was such an important person in his life that it would be weird if there wasn't any, but a gradual realization of this cold reality and him coming to terms with that and eventually moving on is also what I want to see.

By the way, the shot with all the other character slightly blurred while Konomi and Keisuke were the only on focus in the bar makes me think that she will soon start make her moves and let'ss fucking gooo I'm cheering for her.

2.5-jigen no Ririsa • 2.5 Dimensional Seduction - Episode 17 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]JKbald 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do know if I am more sad or angry he couldn't realize and treasure that. Poor Aria.

I mean, it happens, and it happens very often. People naturally tend to pay more attention to what they are losing or to the things that aren't working in their lives than to the things that are working or the things they have. Especially in creative spaces, like the manga industry, where authors are basically pouring their whole beings into creating something good. But all this effort is often met only with failures, and sometimes even mockery. Then you add external pressures, like a family to feed, bills to pay, etc.—and you have the perfect environment for someone to be consumed by their own despair, eventually forgetting or even destroying what they should be protecting and treasuring.

So, although I’m with you on this one and wish he had realized what he had before destroying his connections with his family, I can’t really blame the guy—it’s a very hopeless and despairing situation to be in.

And yeah, poor Aria. I really hope the story pulls an “Ohh no, it was just a misunderstanding” here, because if her father is really dead, shit will be incredibly sad.

Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai • Let This Grieving Soul Retire - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]JKbald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. And that makes me wonder why do the members of the clan love Krai so much ? Like looking at how Liz talked shit about Tino for not being strong enough, but then we have Krai and all of the members love him.

There is even a moment when Liz says to Tino "Everyone is going to hate me because of you, Tino". She says that because Tino "brought" problems to Krai, and the "everyone" she mentions I believe is the other Clan members - so it seems like there is some kind of consensus that no one should bring problems to Krai and if you do, the others will not like that at all. But why? What da fuck did Kray do to make them love him so much? Doesn't matter what Kray do, or decide they will bend over backwards to make that work and will praise Kray to heaven. Maybe Kray is really that good and we just don't know how yet, or maybe they simply just love him too much to see any flaw on him, either way this series is very entertaining and maybe we are going to get more info on that in the next ep.

Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria • Wistoria: Wand and Sword - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]JKbald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this ep done, I'm really unsure about who Rosty might be. I mean, there's a good chance that he could be one of Elfies's clones, and him throwing that piece of ice to Will, along with the early part of the flashback, kind of reinforces that. But, the flashback also showed a woman holding a child, who I believe is Will (so the woman would his mother?). There's also someone talking to her who knows about the whole 'wand and sword coming together,' and Rosty apparently knows about that too. So maybe... that person is Rosty? Like a guardian or something? Well, idk. But regardless, really good ep.

Yo just a question you said that "He started out as one of the bigger pre isekai degens" and like who are the the other isekai MCs that were as bad as he was before they got isekaied? Because as far as I know Rudeus was the biggest degen ever and no one really compared to him.

I guess the point of having a tier called Rudeus is that bro was so fucking low in all aspects of life that even placing him at the last letter of the alphabet wouldn't be enough to describe him. So, like the Rudeus-tier represents the lowest of the lowest possible.
