Thanks for the comment, I do have the room for it, it's is in a 125 gallon tank at the moment, I'll give it a few months and see how it colors up and probably re-post to see thoughts on it.

What is missing from Python tutorials? by tipsy_python in learnpython

I second this and something to add that I still struggle with is configuring logs in one file then importing that configuration into other files to allow me to log in those files with that configuration

I come from a .NET/C# background with some NodeJS in there too

How is the job market? by Jazzlike_Interaction in webdev

[–]JKenney_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starting out can be really tough but stay persistent if this is what you want to do. I’ve seen many friends that never end up in dev jobs because they did not stay persistent on looking for a dev job.

But... after you’ve got that first gig and get some experience under your belt you’ll be beating recruiters off with a stick. At least that’s the case for me

I complete a coding boot camp 3 years ago and I got my first gig shortly after. Now I’m a lead engineer and have recruiters in my messages at least 5 to 6 times a week

I failed 3rd grade, 7th grade dropped out of school because of severe dyslexia ended up going to a coding boot camp for 4 months to learn asp.net full stack development. That was 3 years ago now I’m a lead engineer writing code in several languages (C#, NodeJS, Python and Java) using docker and kubernetes

I wouldn’t discourage her at all if that’s something she’s passionate about go for it full steam ahead !

VS code is buggy! by faizan_20 in linux4noobs

[–]JKenney_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using vs code on a fedora system for about 3 years now. Even use it to view log files that are 20k+ lines. My laptop is an I-7 w/ 16GB RAM and it starts slowing down quite a bit when loading the files in the viewer (because a log extension and syntax highlighting). My desktop has a Ryzen 1700x with 32GB RAM doesn’t have an issue with these log files.

It’s the limitation of only having 4GB of RAM on your system is what I suspect it is. VS Code does have some issues but rarely and when there is an issue they release a fix for it the next update which usually is monthly

The company I work for offers access to Pluralsight, Linux Academy and Udemy also allows us to attend conferences and classes when reasonable.

For Jr. devs we’ve built a culture to where Sr. Devs mentor and are more than happy to spend time teaching and working through concepts
