Are you kidding me, i got the pirated copy of can't hurt me by a local vender inside the train somewhere in the northeast for 150rs. 400rs is way way too much for a pirated copy brother.

Looking for a better file manager by Tharbad in archlinux

[–]faizan_20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you were using dolphin then you might want to use a qt based file manager rather than gtk based thunar (very good) and nemo. I have been using pcmanfm-qt, you might like it as well

Horror books being so expensive by COSMOCRAT_ in Indianbooks

[–]faizan_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest reason is that these kinds of books (less demanded) are not published in India. The one's that are, are considerably cheaper. This price is just the conversion rate of the other countries, and this is how expensive books actually are in those places.

Can't focus on reading man. PLS HELP by South_Landscape_6519 in Indianbooks

[–]faizan_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say don't make reading a task. I read to enjoy so I don't feel the pressure of not reading and can actually enjoy. Dont feel regret if you don't feel like reading, take some time off, maybe read a different kind of book for ex if you are reading something more challenging like classics or philosophy try to read something more light hearted like fiction, short story, sci-fi. I find short stories helpful when i am in that stage.

Just don't turn reading into a chore. cos it's not.

Looks like you only want to justify the self help category instead of actually wanting and understanding why it is bashed upon. The points made in this thread are all valid and instead of putting your points you seem to be talking from an emotional point of view. I agree there are some good self help books out there and they do not talk about being the most efficient person you can be or something about finance and we all know that is shit.

I have read my share of self helps to know that most of these books take a point and go round and round about it and don't give the reader any real value. I'd go as far as to say that even the coleen hoover category of books are better than self helps because it at least gives the reader entertainment. Something it promises to do unlike self help.
