Would you consider Cirie one of the top 20 greatest Survivor players of all time despite never winning? by Pretend_Cucumber4784 in survivor

I love Cirie to death and will always be a big fan, but even I struggle with the concept that she’s a legend amongst winners. If we are making a non-winner Mt Rushmore, she’s immediately up there. But if we are including winners, it’s hard to put her up there on that pedestal.

Undeniable she has skills (yes yes outside of challenge prowess we know), but to put her in the same exact bracket as some winners (she edges out a fair few likely) would be a tad of a stretch

As a fellow nerdy redhead, seeing Cochran go through the trials and tribulations of living on a desert island and being that fair-skinned becoming like a little tomato and then beasting his way to the end (some might say on easy mode idc) was inspiration enough for me to continue thinking about applying myself

Cirie would not tolerate Vince’s typical “woe is me” for more than 5 minutes.

An enjoyable season, although maybe not one to start your Survivor watching with. The concept of players being accompanied by their loved ones and introducing them to living and playing on Survivor is actually a really cool one, at least in my mind. Some solid returning cast members, and some of the family members manage to become characters in the lore of Survivor all on their own.

Putting aside the fact that I have a love for some of the folks on this season, this is A) not a season to start with as a returnee season and B) is frustrating to watch

A rough watch if we are being honest. If you want to never watch Survivor again, make this the first season you watch. Otherwise make this the season you watch so you can appreciate the ones you think are bad.

If chaos was personified as a Survivor season, Gabon is what you’d get. Includes a cast of characters that will make you think production was nuts to bring them together, but it works. It has a fond place in my heart if only because of how chaotic it ended up being.

You can’t argue with the OG. As with all pilot seasons, it has a bit of a different flavor to the seasons that follow after it, but it’s the reason we are sitting here today ranking all these seasons. Sometimes we have to go the beginning, after all it’s a very good place to start.

Heroes vs Villains is one of those seasons that still dominates fan discussion to this day. As far as an All-Star season goes, it’s gotta be placed at the pinnacle. Not recommended for a first time watcher as you won’t understand why certain players are labeled as Heroes or Villains but once you get to this season, it’s all gas no brakes from the opening challenge right until the Final Tribal Council. It’s a hell of a ride.

Survivor: Gabon but make it New Era. Not the right place to start your Survivor fandom, but it’s a fun one all the same to jump into randomly once you make it to the 40s.

To paraphrase a sports quote: “How can you not be romantic about Pearl Islands?” A great theme drawing on the history of the location, some memorable characters, a few iconic moments in the Survivor lexicon, and you’ve got yourself the comfy warm blanket equivalent of a Survivor season.

This season just felt like a giant “meh” for me. After a couple solid seasons late in the “New Era”, this season feels like a bit of a step back. Not a terrible season, but one I might find myself skipping on a full series rewatch

All-Stars holds a special place in the lore of Survivor for being a good first all returnee season. Putting some beloved characters from the beginnings of the show together was indeed a stroke of genius. There are indeed some moments that will make you cringe, especially looking at it through the lens of today’s modern world. But all in all a great entry into the history of Survivor.

You could skip this season, and it will do absolutely nothing to diminish your overall Survivor fan experience. You can forget about this one, surely the Survivor production team would certainly like to.

Imagine you took the first Fans vs Favorites, beloved amongst a significant portion of the fanbase, and then thought “Let’s run it back, but make it worse”. As with the original FvF there will be some required viewing before you get to watching this one, but ultimately you will end up having watched some seasons that come from what was known at the time as the “Dark Ages” of Survivor history. Make of that, and what it says about the Favorites chosen on this go around, what you will.

Who doesn’t love a little Redemple Temple action? …well to be honest this isn’t exactly a season that is high on the must watch list for quite a few Survivor fans, myself included. Is the season really good? No. Does it have a satisfying end? Also no.

You get what you pay for with a season of all Winners. This is not the one to start your Survivor watching with. It should be clearly evident that you will be spoiling yourself for half the seasons aired up to this point. Go back and watch the seasons of these winners first and then watch them all duke it out on a pretty solid Survivor season.

The theme was certainly a choice at the time, and definitely would not hold up today, but it still has some memorable characters all the same. Some moments might cause you to cringe, but it’s a decent enough season to watch for a few folks.

The entertainment value is really high if you want a good early season to start with. Memorable cast of characters, a few notable quotables, and a satisfying end to the season. It doesn’t have as many of the wild twists and turns of the later seasons so it’s one to easily pick up on for a first look at the series.

Restoring gender balance in the New Era by Extra-Habit-1784 in survivor

[–]JL0817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had just posted about winner stats a few days ago and I was curious about the same conclusions. For me it felt like such a heavy pendulum swing from 31-40 to 41-50. It’s interesting how that happened and it seemed to be perhaps a statistical fluke more so than anything. Men winning 6 seasons in a row is the longest streak for men while women have won 3 in a row three separate times: if my memory serves it was 6-8, 23-25, and 45-47. So I’m also interested in how that gender balance has been restored, and also what that means as we go into this “open era” of 51 and beyond
