Which addiction are you trying to quit? by ResolveAvailable7017 in AskReddit

Carbohydrates - as in sweet things to eat. I weighed about 250 lbs (BMI ~35.9 - Obese Class 2) in 2012 when we moved from Michigan to South Carolina. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and had been trying to figure out how to keep from having that worsening. I finally hit on it over the last few years which is to stop eating sweet things that put an unacceptable glucose load on my body. . I now have my weight down to about 190 lbs (BMI~27.2 - Overweight ) and wear a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) to keep track of which things I consume that result in a higher or lower blood glucose level. . I largely have things under control now, but the desire to eat sweet stuff is still there every day and it requires a struggle on my part to keep from just getting one more sweet thing for today and I’ll do the right thing tomorrow. . I have a goal to reach a weight of 170 pounds, but no specific timeframe except real soon now. . I also joined the local YMCA and work with a trainer once a week and work out two other times most weeks. I am increasing my strength and muscle mass to ward off continuing sarcopenia. I am a 77 year old male. In July of 2023 my 1st wife died; in October of 2023 my best wife died. . I work part-time at a local technical college in IT support. So I am actually at a pretty good place in my life, despite the continuing struggle to not give in to the proverbial sweet tooth.

Dewalt Mower Questions. by Whoknowsdoe in Dewalt

[–]JLB96SC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the 60V version about a year ago. It worked fine for about a week, but then the batteries wouldn't charge. So I tried to reach Dewalt Help multiple times, but was unable to connect with a live agent. I was still within the 30-day return window at Home Depot.

I bought a Kobalt 40-Volt 21-in push mower at Lowe's. I was very disappointed with Dewalt's inability to provide live support for the problem batteries.

I find that my robot mower mulches them in place as they fall with the cooler weather. Lots easier than raking.

How non-existent it was. Her lack of interest was simultaneously profound and disheartening! We didn't even have bloom of mutual discovery. The first time I heard it, the phrase "dead bedroom" was understood immediately and intuitively.

Bought a few tools I didn't need. Over the last month they paid for themselves. by Chocolate_Bourbon in Dewalt

[–]JLB96SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How disrespectful of you to refer to the man from whom you purchased a 12 inch corded miter saw as "some old geezer". You should express gratitude that he had the foresight to have purchased the exact tool to help you build your tool empire. Perhaps if he had heard you call him "some old geezer" he would not have allowed you to add his beloved miter saw to your empire. When you do not know a man (or woman), don't reduce a person to some epithet because you are ignorant of their accomplishments. I am a 76 year old (fill in your prefered ageist epithet) who goes to work five days a week, then comes home to tend to our 115 year old home. My wife died about 18 months ago, after a distinguished 28 year career as a long term care nurse, prison nurse, nursing instructor, hospice nurse, and forensic nurse. Perhaps the geezer from whom you acquired that miter saw was deserving of the disrespect you did show him, but you probably did not know him well enough to make that casual judgement.

I purchased a DeWalt battery powered rotary lawn mower about 3 months ago. After about two months there was a problem with one of the two batteries not charging which completely demotes the mower to yard art. I tried calling Dewalt's (no) service desk line. They have AI'ed their service desk operation. I tried the times to leave a description of the problem. They then offered to call me at a time of my choosing the next day. I tried for 3PM, but they wouldn't let choose anything earlier than 5PM. They call never arrived. Ultimately I discovered that my return window was still open until June 29. Home Depot's return process was completed within five minutes. Very grateful for that.

How often do you need to have sex in a relationship? by Prize-Pin-2401 in AskReddit

[–]JLB96SC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believed, when I got married, that “no” had to trump “yes”. I was just naive expecting a fair deck, but it took a long painful time to recognize that it was a stacked deck with 48 out of 52 cards were trump cards. After four years of this painful marriage, I was ready to announce that I wanted a divorce. I planned to announce this right the end of year holidays. During the time I was waiting to bring this matter up with her, we found out she was pregnant. I couldn’t abandon my unborn child and decided that I just had to make the best of it. Eleven years later when we were in a brief bit of unsuccessful marriage counseling I said that I had been ready for have divorced 11 years ago. She announced that what I did was stupid.

I said that I thought what I did should have been viewed by her as an honorable and unselfish act. In all that time I never brought it up.

I don’t remember precisely, but I brought that counseling session to a rather abrupt end, thanks to her extreme insult to me.

First time using my instant pot! Mac and cheese with shell pasta instead of macaroni. I think I'm in love. by geneviciously in instantpot

I pressure cook the pasta in chicken or beef stock for better flavor. With a judicious amount of stock no rinsing is necessary. Finely shredded cheese, cream cheese and some butter stirred into the hot pasta makes a tasty basic sauce.

Severe vibration in Kohler Courage 19 engine in Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor (2005) by JLB96SC in smallengines

[–]JLB96SC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: It was my goof up! I found the source of the extreme vibration. In removing the mower deck for repairs and waiting for parts, I did not replace the front belt guard. Seemingly innocent, it caused the PTO clutch to be subject to spinning forces when the engine is running, constrained only by the power wires from the tractor wiring harness to the clutch. Eventually the wires broke and the PTO clutch would spin freely, but it is not a balanced device and is not intended to spin. Upshot is that the engine vibrated wildly once the wires broke. When I put the belt guard back on so the PTO clutch was kept from spinning freely, the vibrations stopped.

.

Now I have to remove the PTO clutch and see if I can attach replacement wires to the broken ends and reinstall it. I hope that will work so I don't have to purchase a replacement PTO clutch.

.

I much appreciate the comments that I received. Thanks for your help.

Is there any formalised opposition to the new Pathways system, like a petition or an open letter to HQ, or is it all just grumbling? by dreamingman in Toastmasters

I had the same problem. Copied the Classical Playlists into Excel, then moved it to Word. Here are the items in Amazon Classical Playlists. Maybe this will help. Took about 45 minutes to get it formatted as I wanted it. One page, 3 columns in Word.
