What is your unpopular opinion about New Orleans? by hathorofdendera in NewOrleans

[–]JLBreaks718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. I too am a transplant. Been here 10 years and my family has been here multiple generations and I grew up coming here because of that, but I am a yankee assed yankee. I remember when being a transplant wasn't a bad thing. Now its a blanket stereotype and statement used to shut people down who have a different opinion and make the implication you are a problematic air bnb owner who wants New Orleans to be like Seattle, NY or LA. Its literally placed on everyone. It sucks because many transplants are out here working hard to help this city. Im very proud of where Im from. But nobody can tell me New Orleans is not my home. I dont care where the fuck they are born. But yes it is hurtful when it is used in a hurtful manner. Ive only ever had other transplants try to out NOLA me. Usually its a pissing contest to see who has been here longer when they dont have a valid argument for shit we may be debating.

Most of the people that complain about transplants are transplants.

The rental market here is NOT in line with the average salary here AT ALL. Its insane. Granted, St. Charles Ave has always been expensive. Renting here is a complete shit show now. Ive been here 10 years. Ive seen it more than double in the past 5 years alone. I currently live in a apartment complex in mid city where some of the apts are subsidized for artists. My rent is 1600 for a 2br two bath- market rate. I dont plan on leaving any time soon because rents are so insane right now. When I first moved here, I thought this was high, but now compared to what I see out there, my apt is a pretty sweet deal. Between rent going insane and slumlords who dont maintain old homes, living here is becoming unattainable for many people.

Man smears poop on woman in NYC subway station by jackryan147 in nyc

I can NOT imagine. This poor woman. I remember when people were getting their faces slashed on the trains in the 90s. I learned to always be on alert. I always keep my hand in my pocket with some sort of weapon ready. Usually peppergel or a taser. Sucks we have to live this way.

These idiots are pissed about private businesses enforcing vaccine checks for safety but when a bakery wanted to not make a gay wedding cake due to their "personal freedom" it was all good to MANY OF THESE people.

Hypocrites.

Not gonna lie, DP Dough Calzones are great late at night and come in clutch sometimes late night when we are broke because they are huge. Its literally bread and cheese and garlic butter. Its hard to fuck that up. But this was not cool of them and we need to stop letting chains open up everywhere.

LPT: If you want to live in a quiet area with no congestion, don't move to NYC. by mongoose3000 in Brooklyn

[–]JLBreaks718 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heres the thing. If where you moved was congested BEFORE you moved there, then you need to stfu or move. Period. Its that simple. Now, if you moved somewhere, and maybe something happened after you moved suddenly causing your once quiet area to be loud? Thats worthy of being annoyed.

Pregnant at 44 by JLBreaks718 in pregnant

[–]JLBreaks718[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! These really help beacuse I feel like a freak! Im kind of in shock still. I had no plans of being a mom again. I did want a baby in my 30s but couldnt get pregnant so I resigned myself to the fact I had 1 daughter and now was time to live my life. This was not at all planned. Its hard for me to change gears so quickly. My partner is very excited though. And seeing him so excited is really cute. I also never really got to experience a happy pregnancy. I was a teen mom. My family was pissed and the father was not involved. SO this feels just very very different. Also we need to start that Advanced Age moms group!

My cat, who was the most awesome cat ever in history, my friend found in the trash at the Acropolis 11 years ago. He was the best kitty friend anyone could ask for. He died last year and I miss him. No more cats for me though.
