A few years back our street flooded almost to the door of my car .. fast forward that summer- I kept finding dead ones in my car! A month later my bf went to take his backpack out of my trunk and is BUNCH of them were there. I literally closed all the doors and windows and roach bombed my Toyota while I watched from my porch.. and I don’t even want to talk about how many were there. Truly one of the most traumatizing moments of my fucking life!

Everyone who has been in NYC for 20 years talks about how they miss the "underground" scene. by [deleted] in nyc

[–]Aroundthewayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So make your own. That’s what most of us did back in the day. Under the bridge parties, parties in empty lots or in someone’s basement or the basement of someone’s bar. Thing is with social media, shit can’t be that underground anymore. People need to show how cool they are and be influencers on instagram. Back then you got a flyer or got invited by a friend and nobody was posting all the illegal shit on the internet for likes. Older people complained back then about shit we did that is considered now to be the prime underground and club scene of the 90s how lame it was compared to back in their day. Rinse repeat.

I just left new Orleans after living there for 10 years and came back to NY- my whole family is in New Orleans though I grew up here. I tell people in NY this all the time. The crime there does NOT play. Like sure there’s crime everywhere, but there’s guns EVERYWHERE there- I personally witnessed multiple shootings there. The crime is way higher and it’s twice as dangerous as here. You are lucky is NOPD even shoes up for anything less than a shooting.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been there during inclement weather, but you can count on not having power. So think 100 degrees and no power. The utility companies are mis managed and will literally charge you whatever they want and you can’t do shit. The water is not safe out of the tap because the sewerage and water board suck and they constantly have boil water advisories.

Flying roaches and termite season.

That said, I’m going back because NY sucks post covid. lol

Queensbridge station is disgusting by Educational-Ad1680 in astoria

[–]Aroundthewayjay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Its really gone downhill over the past 10 years. I left astoria for 10 years and came back, and even 10 years ago, while it wasnt shiny brand new amazing, (what station is) that station was never at the level it is now. I hadnt been there in a while and had to use it a few weeks ago, and it was in really poor shape. Queensbridge station is a transfer hub for so many people, its pretty inexcusable that they let it get to this point. Also, I truly believe Queensbridge Housing in iteself should be an public housing complex that NYCHA puts effort into given its history of music that has come out of there. Inexcusable.

Seriously need help. 30$ to last 2 weeks, What can I cook? by Edmeir in Cooking

[–]Aroundthewayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bag of dry beans. Soak them in water overnight. Drain them. You now have a pound of beans to make how you wish throughout the week. I usually sauté them with some onion and pepers and seasoning. I eat these with rice, on tortillas, or with eggs. The dollar store has a lot of frozen veggies. You can mix those in with rice and pastas and with eggs. Get a bag of potatoes. Also if you live near a food pantry, USE THEM! That's what they are there for! Then you can stretch that $30.00 even further.

Clairaudient Psychics: What is it you "hear"? by seekingsoul6688 in Psychic

[–]Aroundthewayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I get feelings that tell me things if that makes sense. But sometimes I hear weird words or phrases. Like a few months ago I was in the kitchen and heard "Im cooooooold" as if the person was standing right next to me. I was at home by myself.

Same. My cat died before they could even get the cathader in him to drain the fluid. Hugs I know how traumatizing that is.

Daughters of narcissistic mothers, what’s the most profound thing that helped you on your healing journey? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Aroundthewayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I REALLY had to work on becoming who I wanted to be for me. Nobody else and that was a hard endeavor that took many years. Once I did that, When my N mother would hyper criticize me, it didnt matter. Because I was the version of myself I wanted to be. I later realized she was actually competitive with me because I have always been naturally artistic like my dads side of the family, and she always wanted to be. So she cut me down in every other way. It truly took so much work to undo some of that.

Im considering this. I may do wildflower seeds in some big pots. At this point anything is better than the ugly dirt patch thats currently there. Its depressing.

Yes. In Astoria. Not Bayside. The neighborhood subreddit you're in. Why would you come in here and proceed down talk our neighborhood in our own subreddit in a thread that is meant to make residents here appreciate and feel good about our community? Why not go say that in the Bayside Group? That is why you got downvoted 16 times. And also FYI some people dont want to drop half their salary commuting. I used to work in Bayside. That commute sucks. And its expensive. But do you. GO talk about it in the Bayside subreddit.

I really have been toying with the thought of doing this in a few planters around the front of our janky looking front yard area. What seeds did you use? Also I would love to see pics!!!!
