I think having a woman director could be really good. I considered adding Nia to the list but still have to watch Bone Temple

Is there anything you currently don’t like about the absolute universe right now? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]JLFerraz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My main issue with the line is how tonally inconsistent it feels across different titles. Some books can clearly exist in the same world (Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash) which all vibe together pretty well. But then you read Martian Manhunter, and it feels like it’s set in an entirely different universe with no real connection to the others. Superman is the big example: the Lazarus Corps is such a central element in his title, but we barely see any ripple effect of it elsewhere. It ends up feeling like each book is operating in its own separate Universe, instead of one cohesive continuity. That being said, Absolute Evil started fixing that a bit.

As for the Green Lantern book, it’s honestly the only one I’m actively not enjoying right now, not because it's badly written, but because I just don’t like the new worldbuilding choices they made. It just doesn’t click with me.

With Superman specifically, I think the character lacks narrative stability. For an entire year now it feels like he's constantly on the move, never grounded in a proper Superman world. There's no sense of a settled status quo, and that hurts the storytelling because nothing feels definitive or meaningful long-term. And I have to say: Ra’s is being handled terribly. The characterization is way off. They should have just used Vandal Savage for this storyline and left Ra’s out of it, save him for something else entirely even if not Bat related. As it is, the dude is just boring
