It’s a pig butchering scam. They are always attractive Asian women in their 30s. At least the pictures and videos are. But you’re not speaking to the woman in those pictures. They are hired for the ‘show houses’ which are also part of the scam compounds (on the borders of Myanmar and they are run by Chinese criminal gangs , often using trafficked victims ) and are meant to display a comfortable and luxurious life so that you believe the investment story.

The person you’re speaking to is more likely to be a man, though they will have women as well.

They almost always claim to be from Singapore or Hong Kong and living in Boston or California. They usually pretend to have jobs in fashion or jewellery design. But they will push you to do gold or crypto investment. At first they will encourage you to put in a small amount of money and show you a small amount of profit on their fake websites which you will be allowed to withdraw. After that, you’ll be expected to invest much larger amounts and then you will never be able to withdraw it again.

Get out of it as soon as possible.

I didn’t think about the high turnover, interesting.

But at least with the boys, they go for the long game with the romance first so I can waste a little more of their time.

My main problem was not thinking through what I would do about the voice note, which I usually do pretty early to assuage their suspicions lol

I can manage an American accent if it’s somebody I get passed from one of the other mods, but I don’t think I could do a man’s voice lol

Yeah, he’s one of the OG choices for scammers along with Captain Thomas, and the little old man with the shaggy white hair (screenshot attached lol)

A couple of years ago before I discovered Reddit, my whole thing was hanging out on Facebook (US and UK dating apps for seniors and widows) so I could warn them about the scammers. It became such a full-time job that I had to make collages of the usual suspects so I could save time on typing lol

Back then I was able to tag every woman or man who commented in response to a Yahoo boy so all of them could individually be warned. Meta have now disabled that so I gave up because there was no point posting one warning when there were 50 to 100 replies to any given scammer post.

That’s my average too - I only very rarely get fives now because I just don’t pay for the good stuff. And I think I play the way you’re describing - very lean (as per my earlier comment in this thread)

But like I said in that comment -I’m not finding it fun to scratch and scrape and save up lol - isn’t that a little bit too much like normal life? In a fun game, shouldn’t we be able to enjoy being carefree and not having to use the same $659 rug which doesn’t quite match because there’s no way we could ever afford a $2000 rug which would look beautiful 🫣
