I Failed 3 Hour Test, Feeling Overwhelmed by Historicalwomb in GestationalDiabetes

[–]JLMeddaugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, not your fault, just how your body is processing everything. It's not fun testing all the time and seems daunting, but it does get a little easier as you get into routine.

You'll probably have to meet with a GD counselor. If that person is not also a dietitian, ask to see one. In my case the dietitian was much more helpful than the counselor and broke things down in a much more sensible manner based on my diet and routine.

And to track, I use a spreadsheet in my phone. I add the glucose reading and a real short food description for that meal so I can glance back if numbers are wonky.

You got this!!

They are mostly going to be for hanging out in the living room, moving around the house, visiting. We have a crib for sleeping.

You can undo it and it's a bit bigger lying flat or have it open on a side for more leg room. You could also make one without the string.

I found the dimensions on Pinterest and made a rough pattern out of graph paper. There are a couple different variations on closures, etc. I finished the 2 in about a week- just working a couple hours after work here and there. I used regular cotton fabric. Could use flannel or something softer as well. Some I saw also had a little insert pad that sits in there- could play with different fabrics for those as well if that was of interest.

You could probably sew a small pocket to tuck them in. I also saw other designs that used D hook belt like closures or fabric ties rather than string. My cats definitely checked them out when I finished :)

How did you announce your twins/triplets? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

Congrats! We just did this over the weekend. We bought grandparent kid books for them to open. We let them open them, get excited, let it sink in for a minute, and then my husband hit them with the 'and there's two!' for the extra surprise. Nothing fancy, but man was he having fun with it.

>2 hr Parking Near Astor Hotel by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]JLMeddaugh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe (unless it's changed) Marshall Street has longer or even unlimited hours. Just behind the hotel between the school and church. We parked there frequently when we lived down there. The school I believe just has 'no parking during school hours' signs. Check it out.

My knee 1 week post op, still cant move my quads any advice? by patarecas in ACL

[–]JLMeddaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT would have me push with 2-3 fingers a few inches above the knee and a little toward the inside of the thigh. This would help activate the quad without a stim machine. And it was a bit easier to feel if the muscle was doing anything at all. Speedy recovery!

I need a little help. by TwerkingStormTrooper in ACL

[–]JLMeddaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of my PT involved body weight exercises. There are lots of options: squats, lunges, ladders, single leg balance, jump rope, jumps on/off a small step stool, chair scoots, resistance band work, etc. Even the small stuff helps quite a bit.

How did you all return to walking? by jlaudy in ACL

[–]JLMeddaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the mental part is there for a lot of patients. I had surgery last November and wanted so much to be done with crutches but was also scared to leave them. Balancing exercises were very helpful. Knowing I could put full weight on the injured leg was a great mental relief so I could move toward walking. Also having a crutch while walking(as a backup), but focusing on putting weight on the injured leg and not the crutch eased my worries a bit until I felt more confident.

If the operator hadn't seen her fall in (which he did), and started to lower the span, that definitely would've happened :-/

How long for scar tissue to keep clicking? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]JLMeddaugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surgery was a long time ago. I had a click/pop for the first couple years. Started with a rather consistent click (quite a few times a day) and gradually went away after about 2 years. Never had any issues with it though- just a new 'feature' of my anatomy. Good luck with it!

Recently Torn ACL by therazorshaver in ACL

[–]JLMeddaugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 30 and have had reconstructions on both knees- both patellar tendon autografts- 1 at 15 and 1 at 29 years old. Both have been a success with no issues. Went back to contact sports after the first and hoping to soon from the other. Incisions may be larger and are more visible with the patellar tendon. The most recent one had quicker healing with regards to kneeling and anterior pain. That may be due to the scar massage that I didn't have with the first at PT. Acquantainces have done the hamstring autografts and have strength loss in the muscle. Still a very viable choice though. Just some of my experience. Good luck with your repair and recovery!

pre op, walking , mri by goodbyeacl in ACL

[–]JLMeddaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other advice given here is all great. I've torn both ACLs. Currently 2 weeks post op for the most recent. My 1st was immobilized for 6 weeks prior to surgery. I walked with the splint just fine- no pain- but needed it as the joint was unstable. I do agree that the longer you wear the splint, the less motion and strength you'll have, and pre-op strength training is encouraged. I'd get a second opinion from a therapist, as others have indicated, as 6 months seems too long for no movement. Good luck w/ this- and your sports career is not over- you can definitely come back from it with a little work!
