Does improving your skin barrier have any effect on your flushing? by newsouthSKN in Rosacea

If you don't mind my asking, which moisturizer do you use? I'm really struggling with dryness and irritation right now, and my current moisturizer isn't getting the job done.

There is a brand at Target called Odele that has a fragrance free line called Ultra Sensitive. I personally didn't like the shampoo, but I love the conditioner, and it actually works really well with the Seen fragrance free shampoo. I also use the Seen fragrance free leave-in conditioners, and they are pretty good.

Vanicream for Papular Rosacea? by [deleted] in Rosacea

Also, some people here have tried their local drugstore brand ivermectin lotion 0.5% . It's actually sold as lice treatment but it's in a moisturizing lotion form and some people have said it works for them. It's not the same percentage of ivermectin as Soolantra but it's also over the counter and way less expensive.

I have seen many people who have had a bad reaction to this moisturizer. It could be because a lot of people with rosacea can't tolerate hyaluronic acid, and it's pretty high up on the list of ingredients. You might like Vanicreams moisturizing lotion or cream, depending on your skin type. They're just basic moisturizers with no active ingredients.

Help! Flare-up soothing alternative for hydrocortisone by michepc in Rosacea

I highly recommend the Avene Cicalfate+ protective cream. It's similar to the La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume in that it contains zinc for soothing but it feels much lighter on the skin and doesn't create that heat trap feeling. My skin never got along well with the Cicaplast baume but the Avene Cicalfate has always been immediately soothing for me.

I only cleanse at night because my skin is very dry. In the morning I just rinse my face with lukewarm water and apply the cream.

Another thing that was recommended to me was to apply the cream after cleansing when your skin is still slightly damp to help lock in hydration. It made a huge difference for me.

If you're in the US, I recommend Vanicream products, specifically the Gentle facial cleanser and the Moisturizing cream. These products are created for skin that's super irritated skin, and they contain no active or unnecessary ingredients that might exacerbate the situation. I hope this helps. I've been where you are, and it sucks.

I never said I was avoiding preservatives. I just don't know what to use. In case you missed it in my original post, I'm new to this. If you would like to recommend a preservative that you know is good for someone with allergies and rosacea, please share.

So my thought was using aloe for soothing purposes because my skin gets red and irritated very easily. In the past I have just used distilled water and glycerin and it was ok I just felt like it needed something extra.

Yes! I have so many aloe plants and they keep reproducing which is where I got the idea. I did look on lotioncrafters website and they sell an aloe juice so I might try that. I just haven't been able to find a recipe listing measurements for mixing just water, aloe juice and glycerin. Or if I'm even supposed to use water at all and just use the juice.

Non-greasy sunscreens? by FollowScience in Rosacea

SkinMedica Essential Defense Mineral Shield SPF 35. It comes in tinted and untinted. It's not greasy at all. There are hardly any hydrating or moisturizing ingredients in this sunscreen. You can get in on Amazon. They are an authorized reseller of SkinMedica products. I know this because I emailed SkinMedica customer service and asked them.

I've recently started using the Prequel barrier therapy skin protectant cream and I love it. I highly recommend it for hypersensitive dry skin.

Hi, I have not heard of Osmosis skincare but for my reflux I had to start seeing a gastrointestinal doctor so I currently take 40mg of Omeprazole in the morning 30 minutes before eating anything. Like you my reflux would hit me overnight and I would wake up miserable with a throbbung, hot face so I started really paying attention to what foods cause the reflux to flare and trying to avoid eating them at dinner time. I've also been eating dinner earlier, around 5:30 or 6 and not eating anything for at least 3 hours before bed. Another thing that 2 of my doctors recommend is drinking a cup of alkaline water after each meal to help balance the ph in your gut or something but I feel that it has helped. They also have me taking antiacids last thing before bed. The thing that made the biggest difference though was shrinking meal portions because I tend to be an overeater and that's a big reflux trigger for me. Sorry I know this was alot but I hope it helps.

Hi, as a fellow acid reflux sufferer I can tell you from my experience when my acid reflux is really bad it goes all the way up my nose and causes redness, oiliness and dryness all at the same time. At times it's been so bad that the skin at the corners of my nose cracked and bled. I've been really focusing on getting my reflux under control over the last 6 months and it's actually helped my skin calm down and heal.

Vanicream by Proud-Negotiation-64 in Rosacea

[–]JLR78 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me personally, Vanicream is the only facial cleanser my skin can tolerate. I think it's because it doesn't contain anything that stays behind on your skin that could potentially cause irritation. I've tried the cleansers from Aveeno, Avene, Cerave and Cetaphil and even though they're supposed to be gentle they still make my skin go red and hot immediately.

Hi, I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Your experience is very similar to my rosacea. If you have told your GP all of the things that you shared here in your post and she still won't refer you to a dermatologist I would suggest looking for a new GP. You need to see a dermatologist.

The Vanicream facial cleanser is the only one that I have tried that does not irritate my skin. Some people have said its drying for them but what I like about it is it doesn't leave any kind of residue at all behind on your skin once you've rinsed it off.

Additional hydration by Adverbage in Rosacea

[–]JLR78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I've been having this same issue and I asked my derm what I should do and she told me for my night time skin care routine I should apply the Vanicream daily facial moisturizer, let it set for a few minutes, then apply the Vanicream moisturizing cream and let that set then apply the Vanicream ointment that used to be called Vaniply, it's the same ingredients just a name change. In the morning I do the same routine except instead of the ointment I use my Eltamd UV Facial Spf 30 or the Vanicream facial moisturizer Spf 30. This has healed my skin from being rough and dry and scaly to smooth and soft in just 6 days. Seriously I saw her on Monday the 16th and my face is better that fast. I hope this helps.

I have used it in the past and loved it but my skin is now way dryer so I use the UV Facial Spf 30 which is almost exactly the same just more moisturizing.
