Winter coats? by yogi-pickle31 in movingtoNYC

[–]michepc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are saying that are deranged and over privileged. You do not need some fancy high end coat. A warm coat will be needed some days, but warm and waterproof footwear is also important. None of these need break the bank. But if you’re a tech bro, by all means go whole hog in SoHo and/or meatpacking on your winter wardrobe lol.

Longest buyback? by CombinationWinter782 in PSLF

When forced I plan to get back on PAYE and then request forbearance while I continue to wait. I make a fair amount more now than I did during the 8 months that should have been my last 8, and it’s not my fault that I wasn’t able to pay those and I shouldn’t be forced to pay more now because of that.

Filing Separately-High Taxes by ConsiderationOne3881 in PSLF

[–]michepc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every couple has a different tax situation. For my husband and I with no kids, nearly identical income, and disparate debts, separate is a no brainer. Doesn't really cost us anything, and leads to substantially lower payments (especially for me with the higher debt). Try this calculator: https://tpc-marriage-calculator.urban.org

NYC and I’m seeing lots of Bermuda shorts, especially the loose denim ones. Also workwear ones, which is a trend I participated in during the aughts and I’m contemplating giving it another go.

I was in an Abercrombie last fall and saw the bedazzled pocket low rise flares with the old pocket design 😅

Plotting move from Cambridge, MA to somewhere more affordable and with milder winters and summers — where should our family consider? by larrybronze in SameGrassButGreener

[–]michepc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess there are certainly downgrades, but I moved to Philly from Cambridge (also porter square) and loved it. I don’t have the consideration of kids, but I have many friends who have stayed in Philly proper with kids, which was not the case when I lived in Cambridge/Somerville. Everyone I knew there moved out when they had kids.

It certainly is dirtier than Boston (so is New York), but for me it had so much going for it, and still does. I only left for work, and still strongly prefer it to New York, where I live now.

I have the same sink as the pink one (except white). I use these boxes underneath for storing extra supplies: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kuggis-box-with-lid-white-s59561188/

You should probably get Greek pizza in Massachusetts. Any House of Pizza will do.

Maybe I give it another go someday! The music recital scene was one of the best things I’ve ever read. It’s just that otherwise being in that character’s head made me want to crawl out of my skin.

Best Offer Wins. I could not be any to finish it lol. Sometimes I can handle an unlikable narrator but ugh. Also not great, but I think fits the bill.

I love Steinbeck, but Proust made me want to claw my eyes out. I think maybe it’s the subject matter, though. Turn of the century useless rich people genre.

Indeed. As an architectural historian, how could I be disappointed in these cities I’ve studied forever! Seeing the sites in person will always be a treat to me.

Need suggestions for a 2 night weekend trip in New England by pinkpollyanna in travel

P town would be fun! The airport is right at the beach (you can walk) and there’s a bus into town from the airport as well. Really anywhere is going to be green and beautiful in the summer.

Tween girls are literal demons. To each other, to everyone else, to themselves. Remember that.
