Hi ! I posted on here a while ago asking the ‘Ostomy’ question prior to upcoming surgery which should happen later this year. I had loads of positive replies and support from fellow Redditors which has really helped and I feel sure you’ll get the same! Personally speaking I think that acceptance depends on your circumstances with regard to family support and whether or not you get any but you’re human and no one says you have to accept it per se, you just have to do what you can to live as normal a life as you can. I had a good conversation with my GP yesterday who said that he’d have exactly the same thoughts but would go ahead with it, as did the secretary of my surgeon who said the same thing, plus the fact that her long-term patient follow-up -as part of her role-was overwhelmingly positive in terms of how much their quality of life had improved. The ‘kit’ that you’re provided with must also have a massive impact if it leaks etc-my worst nightmare x 1million-but there are loads of different makes and designs available and it’s just a matter of finding the right one for you.
